if Fulmer does replace Hamilton

I continue to be amazed at the negativity. If you look at Fulmer's career body of work (this will be misinterpreted by some empty headed flat bellies), he was and is a winner. He would do just fine.

obviously you haven't looked at his last 7 years of coaching. if he's that great why hasn't anyone come knocking on his door to coach?

Just a thought - how about Derek Dooley as the next AD - he has experience and would then be able to hire the next coach. If they do it at the end of this season we could have our 4th head coach in 4 years. That would have to be some kind of record.

Phil Fulmer was the worst thing to happen to Tennessee football. Even though he won a NC in 98, Johnny Majors actually had the program headed in the right direction when Fulmer took over. Remember when TN beat Notre Dame in southbend. They were a tough football team back then and gradually lost that toughness through the Fulmer era. Let's hope DD can bring back some of the toughness that has been lost in Tennessee football.

This is the idiotic post I was referring to. I really have never seen a display of ignorance like this on volnation before.

Here is my question.

Hamilton is on record as saying his expectations at Tennessee are to win at least two SEC Championships during a 10-year period and get to the SEC title game every three or four years, as well as play in BCS bowls with some regularity.

Fulmer believes he was wrongly fired apparently believing just reaching the SEC Championship game is good enough.

If Fulmer were hired as AD, would he lower the expectations of the Coach/Program (I think would be sad), or would he hypocritically hold him to a standard that he was unwilling to hold himself to?

Maybe fulmer can come back as "football consultant" and micromanage the program, call plays when needed, hassle the coaches and get paid a couple of mil!!! He's worth it!!!

I think most people DON'T just love or just hate Fulmer. I think most folks are like me -- they have a Love-Hate relationship with Fulmer. I LOVED him some of the time (like when we were winning!) and HATED him at other times (like when we were losing!).

With that said, I think Fulmer would do a GREAT job as AD.

With that said, I think it wouldn't happen in a million years. For those who think that Hamilton firing Fulmer was a solo decision, think again. The really big hitters, both Board of Trustees and boosters, had to sign off on that decision first. Those same Board of Trustees and boosters would have to make the decision to hire Fulmer -- I just don't see that happening.

That's probably exactly what he'd do as the new AD.

Clawson was NOT Fulmer's choice. Do you know nothing about how things work. Clawson was the only one that MH would pay for.

Wait, wait...so that whole thing where Fulmer interviewed Clawson and then acted so thrilled about him...that was all a complete sham, and Clawson was actually chosen entirely by MH with no involvement by Fulmer at all?

Mind. Blown.

lets keep irrational and childish jokes aside

seriously, thoughts on how this might would affect Tennessee athletics.

a) are we royally screwed?

b) is there a chance he might do ok?
(assuming he doesn't take a micromanage approach to the football team)

Personally IDK if he's really qualified
and despite his lack of success in the later part of his coaching career I don't think anyone can doubt his loyalty and love for all things Tennessee.

still purely hypothetical but I'd like to hear your reactions without all the dramatic, passionate, blind hate.

stop for a min, and think....what if this does happen....

Then surely if this were to transpire....you will be able to ice skate in he--!

being a football coach and athletics director are two completely different things. what exactly has fulmer done to make you think he would be a good AD? you can't base everything off his coaching.

dude bleeds orange. Do you have any doubt he'll do it gratis?

Were I him, I would do it for free.

But then again, I actually love UT and would be humbled to serve.

Given the choice between Fulmer as AD and having an oral bowel movement, I would choose the latter. Then, I'd have a mint.

Why should he be rewarded as AD of UT when he has his in part responsible for our downward spiral we are currently experiencing.Just saying. I say Majors as AD hands down.

Yeah, let's put the guy who ruined the football program in charge of all men's sports. Sound logic there.

When you replace something, generally the idea is to improve - "trade up" as they say, not trade down.

Until Fulmer's interview after the Oregon game, I would have completely supported his appointment to AD. Now, not so sure.

For the same reason that the French would appoint one of Andre Maginot's descendents as their Minister of Defense.

Sheer and utter stupidity.

I think you are a little tough on him and what he achieved at UT. He is the one who took us to prominence. You know when you say, we don't have to settle for that that, we're TN. Well he is the one responsible for taking us to that level. Take a look at some of the greatest coaches in history.. all of them have a rough stretch of 4-6 season where they're not on top of college football. I'm not saying I disagree with him being let go, but saying he is responsible for the destruction of our program is a little harsh.

so, he gets full credit for taking us to national title level, but only partial credit for going all Nero on us? Do not get.
