If Chadwell Ends Up Being the Guy...

He is overrated and his offense is smoke and mirrors wouldn’t translate to the weekly grind of the SEC.
I’m not saying you are right or wrong but some said the same thing about Urban, 2 NCs later.....The game has changed its all about smaller faster guys in space.

In the situation we find ourselves in, whoever we hire is going to have to be able to outcoach the other guy for a while. We will have to rebuild and restock talent...and it will be a hard sell for a couple of years with penalties hanging over out head. Chadwell may be the kind of hire that can get more out of less, and keep us on the positive side of the W/L record until he is able to start bringing in true SEC level talent. There are coaches that can do that...we just don't make a habit of hiring them very often.

I don't really understand the argument about him recruiting Sunbelt Players to the SEC. It makes no sense. You recruit to the level where you are. SEC schools, even bad ones, attract a different level of player by their very nature. We have a lot to sell here, and that will only get better with a successful, innovative, exciting, offensive minded head coach.

Chadwell is maybe not my first choice, but he would be a definite upgrade and we'd be fortunate to have him.

Exactly. I co-sign this strongly, with my only caveat being that I think Chadwell is becoming my first choice. I think the guy has a spark.

His offense doesn't play in the SEC. If you can't match up somewhat physically, you will get ground into dust.

They said the same thing about Spurrier in 1990.

They said the same thing about Meyer in 2005.

It would be nice to be the innovators that others are chasing for once, instead of trying to be like the innovators.

Some fun speculation to take our minds off the implosion that is happening before our eyes. Who would you rather have running the offense, Hooker from VT or McCall, Chadwell’s quarterback at coastal (assuming he comes with)? Here is McCall’s freshman highlights:

Coastal finished 25th in the nation in offense. Chadwell said that his offense doesn’t require the biggest or most talented offensive lineman and wide receivers to be successful. Sounds like the offense could be somewhat similar to butch’s with smaller OLs that do a lot of pulling and get out in space to block. Of course Kiffin (my personal preference) finished 3rd in the nation with his ole miss offense, just thought I’d throw that out there 😂

*Almost forgot Salter will be in the mix as well

McCall is extremely impressive to me.

Got enough of an arm to drive the ball down field.

Good touch and timing.

And his ball skills in the option game really impressed me against BYU.

Do you think he would have beat Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, or Notre Dame with his team this year?

Because that's where we are trying to get to.

And I'm not saying he's a bad coach. I'm not saying his concepts won't work. If you'll pay attention to what I'm saying is that he may win a game or 2 he shouldn't, but without SEC type players he won't be where everyone says they want UT to be... COMPETING FOR THE EAST AND THE PLAYOFFS.
We would have finished that Ga game which makes the season different. Chadwell got the most with less than any other coach! NCAA COACH OF THE YEAR!

Pruitt said that we're gonna recruit the big trucks, lineup, and run it down people's throats. He had Trey Smith, Cade Mays, Wanya Morris, and Darnell Wright (four 5* players), in addition to Brandon Kennedy, a Bama guy. He had two highly recruited running backs, plus he had two bruisers (Banks and Crouch) that he chose to play at linebacker. Outside of Mizzou, did we run it down anybody's throats this year?
He also had Jarret Guarantano, so the defense knew we had no passing game. They keyed on the run every play, and let Guarantano screw up.

If I recall correctly I think he played some guys who weren’t eligible or something like that. One of those thing that a competent compliance department will help with. May not have even been his fault
Exactly! College of Charleston may have had an 18 yr old girl working part time as the compliance dept

G5 coach isn’t what we need
Perhaps a Mark Stoops then? He's P-5.

Or maybe Justin Fuente or Mike London? They're P5.

Because all G5 coaches are the same, and we all KNOW a G5 coach always stays a G5 coach. Because of that they can never beat a P5 coach!

Coastal Carolina couldn't beat a Big 12 team.
Louisiana couldn't beat a Big 12 team.
Liberty could NEVER beat an ACC team.
Ga State could never beat an SEC team
App State could never beat a Big 10 team...

Coastal Carolina couldn't beat a Big 12 team. DONE
Louisiana couldn't beat a Big 12 team. DONE Spanked top 10 Iowa st on their home field with the beloved Campbell at the helm!
Liberty could NEVER beat an ACC team. DONE 2 times this year
Ga State could never beat an SEC team DONE and I hate to remember this one
App State could never beat a Big 10 team...
DONE

Oh by the way. Coastal Carolina and Jamey Chadwell beat them all with a freshman QB plus BYU and Kansas at Kansas with Miles as coach!

If you drive to Myrtle Beach through Conway SC, you will pass Coastal Carolina and if you're not paying attention you will not see it. That's how small a school this is. They were D3 not that long ago. They have a tremendous AD who has hired Chadwell along with the baseball coach. Yes Coastal Carolina baseball that won the College World Series a couple yrs ago. I was hoping we would hire the AD and Chadwell together. Danny White is great hire also! I just want Jamey Chadwell to come home and coach UT. Bring his whole freaking staff with him!

My dad frequently talked about the 1969 Cotton Bowl, Tennessee's first introduction to Emory Bellard's wishbone offense.

Texas was up 28-0 at halftime and could have scored a lot more had they not stuck their scrubs in to get some game experience.

I'm with you. I'd like to be with the guys who are challenging conventional wisdom rather than being trapped within the box of college football conformity.

Coastal Carolina has beaten more ranked teams in 2020 than UT has in the last 4 years..and one of those "ranked" teams UT beat was Kentucky so that doesn't really count.

Simple answer. Pitiful OL Coach and no development.

Look no further than Butch Jones for proof of that. Small O Linemen get chewed up in the SEC.
Why do we think he would recruit Sunbelt linemen to the SEC? I don't grasp that line of thinking.

There is a reason my son, a really good athlete, plays at DIII Maryville College. It's because he's not of D1 size and talent. There is a reason guys go to the Sunbelt, and others go to the SEC. That takes care of itself. It doesn't mean the G5 coach cannot coach the same fundamentals and concepts to P5 athletes. It doesn't mean they won't work at a higher level. It just means he'll be working with a different level of player.
