I Want...

That is the most crocked BS I have ever heard. For a guy who is so intent on everyone thinking he is the smartest guy in the room, this is a pathetic analysis of the game this past Saturday. If anything, Self didn't know what to do when Pearl went into the match-up zone. It got UT back into the game.

I realize Pearl is probably a little behind Self from a coaching standpoint, but he is much closer than YOU think and I don't care how many coaches you have talked to or how many college areans you have been to the past few years. This statement is totally absurd. Put the game in Knoxville and UT wins by 7 or 8. I suppose Self was the reason the officiating was so bad.
no it didn't.

that technical and ensuing rant did exactly what he intended.

Yes it did. They went from being 16 points down to 10 points down.

Self was out of control in his rant. Nothing planned about it all. He is lucky he didn't get tossed. Probably would have if it had been a conferenence game or he had been at UT.

Nonetheless, Self also had nothing to do with the significant home court advantage. It has been in place long before he took over. Don't get me wrong, I think he is a really good coach, but I am not going to annoint him a being "great" like Hat. It is one opinion versus another. Nothing to it really

and then the lead blossomed right back and stayed around 15 until the end. If the matchup had been that kind of miracle worker, then you should be lamenting Pearl's lunacy for abandoning it.

I think Self absolutely worked those refs with that tirade and it paid off. Regardless, your homecourt comment is on point.

I was confident he could at one point. Now, with the program seemingly more about rap videos, nail salons, and celebrity tennis matches, I'm not near as confident.

For a guy whose entire persona and career have been about being the driven, focused underdog with a chip on his shoulder, life has gotten really easy for Pearl in a couple of years. I don't begrudge any man his success, obviously, and it clearly doesn't HAVE to translate into being soft on the court/field/ice/pitch, but it was hard not to look at that photo spread of Pearl's Louis XIV French villa and not think about "Rocky III."

that's it. We need some Survivor on the radio and hovel living for CBP. I'm down.

Exactly - it created an already Biased Officiating Crew into full blown Kansas Fans!

I know some will argue the point that Tennessee went to the foul line 30+ times, but the officiating was pi$$-poor at best. Collins was guilty of at least 2 (probably more) charges, but they refused to call them. The "Ghost" call on Prince when Collins slipped and hit the floor was a disgrace. The ref blew his whistle for the sake of blowing it.

So, yes, Self's technical worked like a charm. He knew he would need the ref's help to keep the game pace at a level his team could play at......it worked.

I think something hat overheard last year is ringing true this year. Last year, hat overheard a scout saying that UT might struggle because Pearl used to win with alleycats, and now he has a bunch of fatcats. I think it fits with this version of UT the best.

I think this is very accurate.

I think Hat started this thread just to stir the pot. Making a statement that he will be gone in two years based on one game doesn't sound like something Hat would normally say..especially since it is absurd to make such a statment. I have never seen a post where someone was arguing Pearl was better than Self. Playing in Allen Fieldhouse had as much to do with it as anything. It wasn't that bad of a loss and on this one, Hat is FOS

He didn't mean any game , just requirements of signees . A truefan would have known that.:p

J/J man

It is what it is, for goodness sakes. Pearl didn't get his azzed handed to him by Self. It was a extremely young team going to a legendary gym overconfident and got their azzes handed to them. Did anyone hear what some of the players were saying on Thursday and Friday? They were saying things like "the enviroment won't bother us", "we're used to it", and "their crowd isn't any worse than ours". Plus stuff like "we usually play well in other teams' gym" was remarkably stupid.

They will beat Gonzaga on Wednesday and might lose to Georgia in Athens on Saturday.

We will beat GA like a drum.

. . .ridiculous post! The Vols lose by 7 to KU in their building and you are calling for Pearl's head!! Granted it would have been nice for more consistent play, but shot selection, or lack thereof, was totally evident all of last year! That's Pearl's style to run and gun. . .you're going to live with it or die with it. You can't have it both ways. :salute:

Agree, ridiculous post! This young team will be fine. Road games will be difficult with the young guys. Pearl is building a program that can compete every year. He will be at TN a long time, may be his final school.

If Pearl had used his brain he would've tried the zone early in the game . Also wathching him on the bench was like watching a mute deaf person . He had some terrible calls ( both teams did ) , why didn't he jerk his coat off and throw it as we've seen before and get his point across. I like Pearl but there's times when you have to be as much of an A$$ as the other coach in order to get your points across. He was way to submissive and that's the way the team played . JMO

only at the point that the investigation becomes a full blown investigation.

Maybe we are on double secret probations and do not know it.

The NCAA must report it to the NCAA?

Do not forget the Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Putting it mildly.

It is not every day you get a Rocky III reference. Kudos.

It is an adjustment. He didn't really have to motivate Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith to work hard in practice. Also, don't forget the effect of losing some hard-working types on the remaining team members. Hard work and lack thereof rubs off on people. Its CBP's job to push them harder since no player on the team can do it.

That first half had me pulling my hair out. How many back door cuts did our boys watch and NEVER stepped up to contest them? If a player got taken off the dribble not one other player picked up his man they just watched him fly by. The way we played the first half was complete GARBAGE.

Did CBP make adjustments in the first half or did he stay with what was geting him beat . I saw the whole game and dont really remember if he tried to adjust to their offense . The refs always suck , but you cant whine about it . You figure out what's being called and what's not . Then you play accordingly .

Pearl tried the zone. It was as bad or worse than man to man after the first few minutes of it... Kansas figured it out quickly and nailed 5 or 6 threes while we were in it.

If you're geting beat in the zone and in man to man , what else can you do ?

Nothing. Just stay in your base defense you practice most of the time - which was man to man and that's exactly what we did. We'd cut the lead down to single digits and then they'd nail two quick threes against our zone and we'd go right back to man.
