Sly you gonna play golf this year, before the VN tailgate

No idea. Depends on the day and whatever my health is that week. I haven't played since last May. Actually thinking about going to the range tomorrow to see if I can still hit a ball.

I remember the old drag strip in Maryville. That was good times. Sometimes a racer, sometimes a spectator. There were some hot local cars that ran there. One that I'll never forget was an old 56 Ford. At the track, back then, you could pull your car up within 10 feet of the track, sit on the hood, drink beer and watch the races. We were parked about half way down the 1/4 mile. This Ford had Valvoline Motor stickers covering his headlights. Just as he passed us, his motor blew spewing us with some oil. To this day, I've never bought a Valvoline product. Dumb, I guess.

Was that the old 411 race way

No, this was separate. I've been trying to remember exactly where it was. We'd drive down Maryville Pike until it turned into Old Knoxville Highway close to Maryville. You'd hang a left about 3 or so miles past the Druid Hill drive in. Drive out into the country a few miles and there it was.

Amazon.com: Customer Discussions: l was wondering if anyone rememberd the drag strip off of montvale rd in maryville tn, it is now a private airport

That has to be it. I can't imagine Maryville having two strips back then. I remember that Country Gentleman Chevelle well. Sometimes he had a blue one and sometimes a red one. They were both pretty hot. Old friend of mine's family owned Low's junkyard back then. The two brothers would get parts from the yard and build some hot cars.

While riding on a train goin’ west
I fell asleep for to take my rest
I dreamed a dream that made me sad
Concerning myself and the first few friends I had

With half-damp eyes I stared to the room
Where my friends and I spent many an afternoon
Where we together weathered many a storm
Laughin’ and singin’ till the early hours of the morn

By the old wooden stove where our hats was hung
Our words were told, our songs were sung
Where we longed for nothin’ and were quite satisfied
Talkin’ and a-jokin’ about the world outside

With haunted hearts through the heat and cold
We never thought we could ever get old
We thought we could sit forever in fun
But our chances really was a million to one

As easy it was to tell black from white
It was all that easy to tell wrong from right
And our choices were few and the thought never hit
That the one road we traveled would ever shatter and split

How many a year has passed and gone
And many a gamble has been lost and won
And many a road taken by many a friend
And each one I’ve never seen again

I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
That we could sit simply in that room again
Ten thousand dollars at the drop of a hat
I’d give it all gladly if our lives could be like that
