We have had a team in playoff every year. Several teams in top teir bowls every year. Exactly, how has that worked out in Tennessees favor?

Id rather Alabama collapse as an institution and never win another game in any sport.

My personal favorite was the player who was DUI but want suspended because he wasn't driving. He was just passed out in the driver's seat with the car running, so no need to miss any snaps.

This. Look how close Wisconsin was this year. Their schedule was embarrassingly weak, and the Big 10 struggled the previous year in bowl games. Yet, they were one game away...

I’m probably an outlier here but I always pull for an SEC team against outsiders. Regular season and bowls.

I think having a great national reputation helps the entire conference.

Again, how has it helped us with Alabama, LSU, Georgia etc winning?

Helped SEC conference yes, us, no.

Elevates the reputation of the conference and every school in it. Helps us be in the recruiting conversations with players we wouldn’t be in on otherwise. If we were the only good program in the entire conference would top players want to come and play against crap competition? No they wouldn’t.

My opinion.

Well boys, Vanderbilt is terrible, but at least other teams in the conference are winning championships. I'm sure they are comforted in sharing those victories.

Didn't hurt Ohio St when they had no competition. Michigan was down at same time Penn State and that left just Michigan State in conference.

USC did fine with no Oregon at time and even then there was little competition in conference.

I'm not condoning what Gaulden did at all. However, he didn't stick his hand in a fan's face like Bo did. I would consider something like that as threatening, more so than flipping the bird. The point I was trying to make is... "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." I'll just leave it at that.

Just had to debate with my own sweet mama on the phone about this. I didn't change her mind, but I at least made some headway by pointing out that Clemson is at least a southern team. It's not like I am asking her to pull for ND or something.

I will never pull for 'bama and "roll tide" will never pass my lips. I don't believe in living vicariously, I take no pride in their accomplishments. I admit they are an amazing team but I want them to lose and lose badly every time they play. Don't care if our coach is on the sidelines either.

I know it's beneficial and all to have a team in your conference win the national championship, but honestly, I hope Bama and Georgia are both beaten by 50 points today.

Once upon a time the gumps beat the gaters to put us in the SECCG. That’s the only game I can remember wanting them to win.

As for the “flipping off” and the “talk to the hand” gestures, what a minor blip on the radar.

There is a healthy way to look at SEC spirit. We don’t want all the SEC programs to lose every game except the Vols. Who would beat the gumps?

The SEC is established as a top conference. There is no need for the gumps or the dogs to win today to prove it any further. Right now, go win the SEC(or not), can get you in the play offs.

Until a 1 loss SEC Champ gets left out, I will always think that enough to get in a 4 team playoff. I can’t go so far to say a 2 loss SEC Champ would deserve an automatic bid.

I’m going to stick with.....

Go Vols!
