I mean legally, yeah, but it’s sort of nonsensical to do so. Johnny himself wouldn’t have made it as long as he did if he weren’t Johnny Majors, so to act like there’s some flaw in the modern fan is just baseless. No coach should expect or be given that kinda leash here because they ain’t Johnny Majors.pretty sure I can make any comparison I want, anytime I want
Is there a question in the OP post? NoI mean legally, yeah, but it’s sort of nonsensical to do so. These coaches and now some of the players are multimillionaires several times over and should be expected to win early and win big. Things have changed in the past 50 years. Heupel won early. It’s fair to question if he can win big.
Spurrier had won 3 SEC championships when he hired Bob Stoops. That's a pretty big difference. The ceiling is raised by upping the recruiting game and being willing to work with championship coaches who he doesn’t have a close relationship with. The players love him and he’s an offensive genius. Some thought that Spurrier had hit his ceiling and he hired Bob Stoops. I think there’s a small amount of correlation here.
Correction, Spurrier had won 4 SEC Championships by the time Stoops joined in 1996 and that 1995 Nebraska team would have kicked the **** out of anybody. That is the best CFB team in my lifetime and I'm about 50. Florida did us a favor beating us that year and being their sacrificial lamb instead. In all seriousness, if Heupel had won 4 SEC titles already his reverence from the fanbase would be in a whole nother galaxy from where it is. For what it's worth though, I think Heupel can win it all in the right year with the right team. He does need to beat the road bug though. He also got the living **** kicked out of him in the championship game. Also I would like to go back to the term “small amount of correlation “.
You're welcome to your opinion of course. Again, I think Heupel can put it all together and we are lucky to have him but factually he doesn't have a 1995 Steve Spurrier resume by any stretch of the imagination. It's not objectively even close.Dude. I’m really not going to argue with you about it. Heupel is one win away from playing in two CFPs. Like Spurrier he’s probably a few coaching upgrades away from being a serious contender for a championship. I consider there to be some correlation to their careers in that regard. If you don’t then that’s fine.
Singularly, no.None of these things is very likely in 2025.
If we simply never had Nico, I might agree. But we had a decwnt season lined up before he left. And that is a major problem* in YEAR 5
*or at least should be IMO
Why should it be? We barely beat them in Neyland last year and they'll be ranked ahead of us (at least to begin the season).SHOULD BE a W in FLA...BUT...TENNESSEE ALWAYS seem to $HIT their pants in GainesviJJe...
EXHIBIT A:Why should it be? We barely beat them in Neyland last year and they'll be ranked ahead of us (at least to begin the season).
They will have the better QB by a lot and at home. We don't have QB1, RB1, Pearce, ONL, etc from last year's playoff team. They will be in Y3 and up to speed.
No way we should be the favorite, as of right now.
Hopefully he will reach out to you on the next promotion and get your much desired approval and we can get the offense going again.100% the defense has been better. But I think Banks is closer to his ceiling than Heupel. Heupel has hampered himself with some mediocre coaching promotions and sketchy QB evaluations. I still think there is time for him to get the offense back on track.
He made the same number of national championship games with and after Stoops as he did before Stoops. The only real difference is they happened to beat FSU in a rematch versus losing to Nebraska. He already had the dominant program in the SEC and a top 3 program in the country before Bob Stoops. He also got the living **** kicked out of him in the championship game. Also I would like to go back to the term “small amount of correlation “.
And Heupel has had a top 7-8 program in the country over the last 3 years. In the era of a 12 team playoff you could win a natty that way. He may have to make a/some coaching upgrade/upgrades to get the whole way there. He made the same number of national championship games with and after Stoops as he did before Stoops. I didn't say you said anything about 8-4. That's why I asked about it LOLDid I say anything about going 8-4? NO! Understood perfectly what the OP posted. You can think what you want, frankly don't care.
SEC road is brutal. Bama has lost just 6 home games since 2008 and only 2 teams have won B2B against them in the same period. Last Ole Miss 14/15. Knowing that I don't NEED to see a W there but I do want one. Florida defends the Swamp well. Georgia is the more talented team and has lost only 4 on the road since 2020.
My opinion ain't changing.
I’d say it’s been more of a top 15 team than a top 7 or 8 team. We have only beaten two teams with more than 7 wins over the past two years. One was an Iowa team with the worst offense in the country, and the other was a Bama team that lost to Vanderbilt and a 6-7 OU team. Heupel hasn’t shown himself to deserve being mentioned in the same breath as Spurrier to this point. And Heupel has had a top 7-8 program in the country over the last 3 years.
