I know this will tic off most VOLS fans but...

USCe plays 2001 to enter and then Sandman for the kickoff. Yeah, let's copy 2 schools with chickens and turkeys for mascots! We can gobble and cluck, too. UT needs to be the standard by which others are judged --- not a copy.

I always thought that running through the T was meant to hype up the crowd, not the players. If the players on the field need piped in music to get them up for playing the game, then we are worse off than I thought.

Damn good post.

Wanna know why the hokies enter with a generic Metallica song?

Because no one ever liked virginia enough to write a song about it or VT.

Im currently a high school football player so I know how kids my age think. But be honest do you really think rocky top pumps up 18 year old kids?

I hate to break it to you but your opinion isn't fact no matter how much you want it to be. Fact: running through the T is consistently in the top 10 (usually top 5) entrances in CFB. Guess what? So is Virginia Tech's entrance. We both have great entrances. Also fact: Rocky Top is generally considered one of the best school songs in the country because its different, catchy, and engaging. Point is, we don't need to change a damn thing except for this losing games business.

College football is not about tradition anymore kids could careless about that. You scream tradition when you have no present accomplishment. The quicker we drop this idea that tradition is what matters the better off we will be. Stir the pot fir goodness sake even Bama does it a little.

to hell with Bama, they suck, they blow,i hate them,i despise them,i will revel in the glory of UT football, when we start stomping them year in and out again, mark my words, the day is coming, the Orange and White will be standing tall and proud,Smokey will be howling in glee,The Pride of the Southland Band will be playing Down the Field and the players will be running thru the T and it will be awesome

that my friend is tradition

1995 Tennessee-Alabama post-game in Birmingham, Alabama - YouTube

I'm done with this thread

I just think kids want excitement, and this is exciting. No one thinks running threw a T is cool except us, I like what we have but to win we need good players and to get good players we need some energy and excitement into our program. Im not looking for a fight on a message board I just wanted to see what VN thought about this. I guess I got my answer :banghead2:

What?
Former players, current players, sports announcers, sports historians AND even some fans of other teams think the T is one of the great spectacles in sports. No one knows about Va. Techs high school-ish entry onto the field.

you don't discard meaningful traditions for meaningless BS that has nothing to do with winning or losing football games.

you're talking about a pregame entrance for crying out loud. 10 minutes usually goes by between the entrance and when you kick the ball off.

the last two seasons, i saw florida at home score on an opening kickoff against south carolina and on the first play from scrimmage against alabama. crowd was sky high and atmosphere was electric on both occasions. then the last 59 minutes, a butt kicking transpired.

put a good team on the field

There are a lot of things I wouldn't mind seeing them change. The occasional different jersey or whatever but running through the T is THE single greatest thing in college football. That is sacred and it fires me the **** up like nothing else on this earth! I could single handedly invade the state of alabama armed with only a switch and kill every toothless inbred bammer I saw for at least 300 miles after running through the T. I like some of the stuff on the big screen they play during games, those kinds of things are where you make your changes. Not running through the T.

I recommend you read over the words to Rocky Top and learn what Rocky Top actually is saying before you claiming that some other song is more cool/sick than Rocky Top. There is a reason that the IRS bans it from even being hummed in their offices. If you need help understanding the words and what the're saying just ask your local moonshiners, they'll be more than happy to explain it to you.

Pretty sure SC plays Sandstorm. . . . Which three repeat about 87 times throughout the game. For some reason they've developed a fascination with piping techno music into the stadium.

I love our tradition and everything it stands for but I'm also a fan of modernizing things. Until all the blue hairs die off not alot will get changed. I mean some things are meant to be changed and things have to be able to relate to 18-22 yr olds. But hell things slowly get added and changed every year.

The "blue hairs" are not the ones preventing UT from using Metallica music in the entrance. Common sense is doing that. :good!:

Who ever said noone like running through the T but us is just plain dumb. Almost every sports site that does preseason rankings of entrances ranks the T in the Top 25. If the vols started winning more it would rank in the top 5 cause everybody loves a winner.

Also if you ever read anything from any former player, current player, recruit they all say running through the T is just plain awesome! I'm not super into tradition, I liked the black unis and wouldn't mind seeing something a little diff on the unis (see thread with inverse helmet, ect.) But that's stuff that gets the players excited, some old crappy rock song wouldn't do it for them like the T. If anything you would have to switch it to some Gucci man or Lil'Wayne and I don't want to do that.
