Without Tee, the Syracuse game would have been a loss.

He also broke some NCAA passing records in 99.
Oh I know. He had a huge run late in the game versus Syracuse. That McNabb led team was very good. That was when it was thought that the Carrier Dome was one of the tougher places to play in the country. Also, after he took a bad sack in OT vs Florida he scrambled just enough on 3rd down to get to within field goal range. The South Carolina game was special and he definitely came into his own the second part of the season .

I wasn’t trying to take anything away from Tee, I’m just saying ‘98 isn’t his championship alone. The entire mindset of the team and staff was different it seemed. They were a better team overall.

I don’t want anyone to be confused that I’m not ecstatic that Tee is back on the Hill. He was a warrior for us and will get guys to buy in to Tennessee and the staff.

Why do you seem way too excited that we got smoked by Nebraska in the Orange Bowl?

Peyton happened to QB of Tennessee teams that never beat Florida while he was here. Tee Martin was Quarterback of a team that beat Florida 1 out of 2 starts. Tee Martin passed for 63 yards against Florida in 1998. 63.. it’s not like he won the game. We won despite him. That game ball goes to Al Wilson and Deon Grant. Those 2 guys were as responsible for that title more than anyone . Probably the o-line too. Tee got much better, but we were lucky to survive Syracuse and Florida. Defense and special teams went a long way early on.

People comparing the 2 is like comparing apples to oranges. Just because Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl doesn’t make him better than Dan Marino because he was the starter for a Super Bowl winner.

To your first point, Nebraska taught us a valuable lesson in physicality. They STOMPED OUR ASS. So, UT gets serious about the weight room, and being bigger, stronger and more physical in the trenches. Results.......13-0 NC 1998 season. I've never LIKED Nebraska and their creampuff schedule, beating Tulsa 77-0, etc. But, I can definitely respect Tom Osborne, and his approach to football.
To your second point, I was merely playing "Devil's Advocate". I loved both Tee and Peyton. They are both credits to The Big Orange Nation, on and off the field. I hold no ill-will towards Tee, for winning a NC. He was just the QB we needed, at the time. Driving a powerful machine, straight into Tempe, and whipping the Noles.

Tee Martin much better QB n college as Peyton b/c he was way more athletic, I never thought Tee got a chance n pro football, Peyton got with right team
and became best NFL QB ever love em both GO VOLS

Tee went to Pittsburgh, and never got a real shot. Peyton started from day 1, in Indy. Also, I think Tee was more successful at UT due to his athletic ability, because he could make positive yardage, with his legs, and move the chains. Peyton was always looking downfield. Also, Peyton was a much more confident passer, and sometimes forced the ball into coverage. Which led to TO's. Not alot. But enough. Tee took care of the ball. Moved the chains, and threw the most beautiful deep ball I've ever seen. UT's ground game, under Tee, was brutal, as well.

Agree with you. However, I seem to have a dim recollection that the Nebraska and Oklahoma teams back then were juiced up on steroids. I can't recall specific fact but think it was some article(s) where some players admitted as much or some staff observed and mentioned it. Probably could find the info online if I cared enough to do so, I don't.

You’re saying Tee Martin was a better college QB than Manning because he had better mobility?

Peyton was the best at reading defenses and making play changes at the line of scrimmage. He also had a much better arm the Tee. Tee was a lot more mobile than Manning. If you said I would have to pick only one to be my QB, I'd go with Manning any day of the week.

He was a mobile QB , but he had cannon arm to go with being mobile. He could throw laser passes and his receivers were great. The running game was really good it was
great team. I don't have a fav either player I think Peyton matured and improved after college, Tee playing for Pittsburg was behind a great QB and didn't see field enough.
GO VOLS...……….

***Because I had a brain fart asking, Is Tee an issue with you because of Peyton?***

It's public and I made it easy. Would like to separate the wheat from the chaff.
I don't like or dislike Tee any more than most other VFLs. I have a few un-answered questions about Tee as a coach. Some have compared him to Rodney Garner as a recruiter but not as a coach. Garner is not a very good coach but he did recruit most of the Georgia players who were instrumental in Tennessee's 1998 team winning the National championship. If he had remained on our staff, we may have won additional National Titles. We don't know, but we haven't won another one after he left. Tee has proven to be a very good recruiter at USC. The WRs he recruited and coach were very good. However, USC has not won a National Title with the players he recruited, including those who were not WRs. In addition he was fired by USC. Garner was hired away from Tennessee. All this leads to the fact that we do not know how well Tee will recruit here, how well his position players will play, and if we will win another National Title while he is coaching here. I trust CJP in his selection of his players and assistant coaches, so I will be pulling for Tee's success just as much as I pull for the success of CJP and all the other assistants. I look forward to seeing the product that is playing for Tennessee in the next few years and believe we will very good football teams in the future.

"Understood. However, the anti-Tee-ism began long before his declining to return. Some never forgave him for winning the NC that "should have been Peyton's." This goes way back."
I strongly disagree with that statement. I wish we had won the NC every year regardless of who was the QB, punter, RB, WRs, Olinemen, Dlinemen, etc. I am a Tennessee fan, not so much an individual player fan. If I was asked who I thought was the best QB to have played at Tennessee, I would be hard pressed not to say Condredge Holloway. I strongly believe that NCs are won by teams, not individual players.

Why would any a fan not like a player b/c his team won National championship after another player did not. they play for same team just different season.
Peyton was great QB loved him leading Vols, Martins team won it all b grateful for what he and his team accomplished, don't make it a Peyton vs Tee rivalry
that makes no sense, it is team not 1 player.

Thanks for the straight up commentary Vonore! Love your city by the way. Used to be there frequently when I worked for Yamaha. Thinking of retiring close to Telico.

I never had any reason to feel anything but gratitude towards Tee until you started getting the vibe that he didnt want to be here.

Now he's here and you'd think the opportunity for him to be here for a while is here if he wants to be.

I have no hard feelings now.

Its just a business.

It is nothing personal. It is strictly business.

Now that we got the good Haslam retired from politics, I think we will see an upswing in Vols football.
