I've coached football. I played at the collegiate level. Granted it was nowhere near the SEC or even anything to be considered big time football but I've got some understanding of the game and how it works. That said, I have absolutely no idea what I'd do with our defense ; specifically our secondary.
For the most part this season the plays have been situationally right. There were a few times today when I questioned why we didn't drop two safeties, but the overall scheme seems right most of the time. Before anyone jumps on this statement, understand that the success or failure of a specific play doesn't automatically mean it was right or wrong. Sometimes you call the right play and get burned deep and sometimes you call the wrong play and sack the qb for a 10yard loss. The plays seem right most of the time. We're just not executing.
I don't believe a new coach would bring success with this depleted defense. We're lacking too much talent. We're certainly lacking too much execution. Maybe you guys see something I don't. Enlighten me. What could another coach do with this defense that Dooley / Sunseri aren't?
