Hypothetical Situation...

Nick Saban, Mack Brown, Brady Hoke, Mark D'Antonio (went to Cincinnati (basically mid-major))

Those are a few off the top of my head.

Saban- yes.
Brown- Yes
Hoke- never a BCS Coordinator before mid-major
Dantonio- yes

But I think you just proved my point, it isn't easier going the mid-major route from a prominent coordinator in a BCS conference. Quit arguing for arguing, you act like you are in law school or something :)

Or

I wanted to leave on my own accord and not be told a new coach didn't want to retain me.

Already stated that even if DD is fired he can get a mid major type HC job IMO. No fear of the sinking ship because he will have options.

That's fair. Here's the problem I see with that. His resume gets a permanent L on it if he leaves here now. AD's love to see resumes that constantly advance and winning at every stop. Leaving here for another DC would hurt both of those.

I agree. Right now Wilcox is getting literally top dollar for a free pass. **** us fans are happy we only got blown out in the second halfs against the better teams instead of the whole game. I'm not even debating the merit I'm saying he looks good on a bad team right now and will next year with 3 juco DL.

I didn't know he was under Belicheck. Nice

He would've been as good as Belicheck in the NFL if had not made one of the worst personnel decisions in his lifetime by signing Culpepper over Brees. He had decent football teams with terrible QBs.

Saban's failure at Miami is one of the most overblown things on college boards.

On what?

If he goes with Petersen or not. He can say "I liked working with Dooley, but Chris is one of my best friends and I wanted to coach with him."

Agreed he gets a pass on this and going home to oregon. Anywhere else he gets labeled as a loser on that resume.

If Sirmon, Baggett, and Wilcox leave (not saying this is likely or unlikely to happen; it's purely a hypothetical), would you be in favor of keeping Derek Dooley?

Remember to consider that he's most likely going to also have to fire offensive assistants, so he would be faced with having to essentially hire an entirely new staff while being squarely on the hot seat. Consider whether you think this would affect his ab
slitty to hire quality assistants.

My answer is, under this scenario, I would be in favor of firing Dooley.
I would be inclined to agree with that opinion Law.

Look it's obvious you have an agenda vs. Dooley and that's fine. But the only one that is going to get fired is Hiestand. Even then, his college resume was pretty great. He also got us Baggett, who Bama went hard after and I believe the Cowboys also did, Sirmon, Wilcox, and Russell. All 4 of these coaches have and will always receive interest from other teams.

Chaney, Wilcox, Russell, Baggett and Thompson all turned down offers last year.. at least one. some turned down more than one or expressed no interest in even discussing situations..

On a side note, as Skeeter said, Thompson's departure could actually be a blessing in disguise. There's a certain guy on the west coast (Cal) that Wilcox would definitely push hard to get here. If so, we would've upgraded the position coach.

they made that push before. things change over time but he is not interested in leaving the west coast. be great to get, but I would be surprised if they could get him.

I'm concerned with all the openings out west that Wilcox would make a DC move to one of those schools if asked and money was right. The staff understands the unrest here. They will not just shut out inquiries but will look into them. Biggest Wilcox draw will come from UCLA is my opinion.. this is all me guessing on JW..

So they can Dooley and pay him 5 million..

Hire Charlie at 3 million

Pay Charlies boyout of 2.5 million..

10.5 million dollar move in first year.

do you think they pursue that risk?? No assurance that Charlie can turn program so it is a big risk.

It all sounds so easy when you're not responsible for the budget and the required fund raising.

I keep reading that Dooley was the best we could last time and we'd be surprised who we'd have to settle for if we made a change.

Maybe, but last time we were in a major bind with Kiffin leaving in Jan. less than a month before signing day. While I'm sure our HC position isn't as highly sought over as we'd like to think, I also would think we could do better next time if we made the change on our terms and with better timing involved.

Also the fact that he's recruiting at a high level is job one at this point. Winning will follow. Many seem to want the winning up front...doesn't happen in the SEC.

I expect winning against Kentucky up front. Nobody expected wins against Bama, LSU, etc.
