Hypothetical on the QB situation…

If any QB looks good, others will hit the road.
I expect Aguilar to be good. This is the best OLine he had ever played with, by far. The game should look slower to him than the younger guys.
We have seen proven starting QBs from lower conferences look really good when they transfer up.
I think of Gardner Menshew and guys like that.
Why do you think JA will look good? He hasn’t been that good elsewhere.

Does anyone have any idea if a “Pavia season” is an option for Aguilar?
No idea, but unless Aguilar goes absolutely nuts this year, I'm not sure how excited the staff would be about his return with what we have returning plus the stud freshman we have coming on board next year.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. If he’s as good as 22 Hooker (or even 21 Hooker) then absolutely. If he’s eligible and wants to return, you bring him back IMO.

I think JA. He's experienced and was good with protection in 23 and bad with no protection in 24. I expect he will be the coolest under pressure. He should benefit the most from blue chip talent around him. He has never been surrounded by guys with elite talent until now.

That’s not the hypothetical…the hypothetical is that he is good and if so, does he have an appeal case similar to Pavia…

I’m really amazed that I’m having to spell this one out so much for everyone in this thread

But why, if he has a season like Hooker, would he WANT to stay in college rather than go to the league?

Basically, what's he going to do the year AFTER if he doesn't have another great year except tank his draft stock?

The whole premise acts like playing another year at UT is better than playing your first year in the NFL.

He might not. But somehow, he has managed to move up from Diablo Valley College to Appalachian State, to UCLA, and now to UT.

No offers out of HS. Redshirted at CCSF. Transferred to DVC for the COVID year. Then to App State. Seems like at every stop, he ended up being the guy coming off the bench. Maybe that's what he does here. Who knows?

They say you rise, or fall, to your level of competence. Getting to UT, even as a depth piece, is quite an accomplishment from Diablo Valley College, no?

He's got a skill set. SEC level? Who knows? He's older. He has experience. He's humble. He's a gamer. He can run. He's a gunslinger.

And maybe he's a winner. Time will tell.

Honestly, I think we got the better end of the trade with UCLA. But time will tell.

from today's scrimmage sounds like he was between GMac and Merk with GMac running against the 2s/3s. Thought we would begin to see a bit more separation today
I think Hype already knows who his starter is and has known ever since ja transferrd. I have a feeling he is going to start ja, don't know this, it's just my opinion and if he does we lose Merk to transfer portal. and maybe even Mac, I hope I am wrong.

I think we got the better of the trade, I was just not that impressed with Nico.

If he’s the best option, he’ll play. The guys who see every second of every practice will make that decision.
I keep thinking of milton starting over hooker, and hooker actually being recruited over to get milton. I want the best qb to start, regardless of which one it is.

If they were say even in practice, who would you start?

2 weeks of preseason practice left with another scrimmage built in somewhere, hopefully one of them will step up separate themselves. I rather not wait until game practice week to determine who starts.

I really don't want to lose Merk or GMac. You end up still needing another QB in your room next year.

Don't you think one leaves inevitably?

If Merk moves to QB1 this and next year, do you think Brandon sits for 2 years? If G-Mac wants to start, he'll leave.

If Merk doesn't start this year or loses QB1 to G-Mac next year, Merk leaves if he ever wants to start.

I don't see a way to keep them both. I think the plan was for Nico to come in, sit one year, play one year then go to the pros. It didn't work out that way so we now have a QB "in the middle" who will never start at UT.

That worked out so well for us last time. If JA magically became 2022 Hooker we'd want him back. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Sometimes 5* QB's work out, sometimes they don't. Hopefully no more Daddy drama. Hell, Nico has all the tools, he just doesn't have it between the ears. That's impossible to evaluate.

Frankly I don't want to think about it because I know if I do think about it will be the worst case scenario that I will keep thinking about. But yes probably lose 1 which is better than losing 2 or all 3

And Heupel had to start Milton. Because he badly outplayed Hooker in fall practice. The fact that the light came on for Hooker later on doesn’t make that the wrong decision.

I agree, that's why we wouldn't (in our right minds) tell 2022 Hendon Hooker to kick rocks if he wanted to come back because we had 5 star freshman coming in.
