Did you attend? Wish I could have but health won't allow it.
At any rate I think coach did right by signing JA. I just think Merk will do a better job, JAs interceptions concern me.

I think he’s good on weight right now.
Sure we want him to get bigger but he’s put on 20 lbs of good weight already.

I mean, if the kid is the best option…why not play him??

If he gets hurt, Merk or Joey are still here this season.

The only reason Heupel would give pause is Faizon Brandon.
FWIW. If Brandon were here on campus now as a 16 year old he would still be the most gifted passer and QB there. GMAC being 2nd.
But he’s NOT here. And if we go win 10 games with True Freshman GMAC as a QB…..

Hey. That’s why Heupel makes the big bucks! To make calls like that.

Not saying I expect it…I’m just saying what if…

As I said earlier, the main point of this is whether or not it’s even an option…basically, is his situation the same/very similar to Pavia or is there 0% chance of him winning the case

I respect what you are saying. And yet, JA seems to be a Hooker STYLE QB, and that has tended to be a good fit in Heupel's system. 🤔

Playing college ball isn't a career and it shouldn't be. 5 to play 4 is all I am saying

Here is where your fantasy falls flat.

Joey A has to perform at near Heisman level. NOTHING in his past from HS to college suggests this is coming magically this year. NOTHING. It's so far into fantasy that it's not worth "what if" status.

If Joey A is a serviceable SEC QB, he can move on because he's not worth paying again for only another year. Period.

You're acting like there's some plausible way Joey A is WORTH another year at $1M+ to UT, first, which is completely nuts.

If the world starts spinning backward and Joey A has a near Heisman year, he's a FOOL if he doesn't capitalize on that (as Hooker did) and head to the NFL.

So let's operate in the land of reality by acknowledging that JA has zero future in the NFL.

He's getting paid 7 figures. Imagine he has a good year and has another 7 figures sitting there on the table.

You want him to turn that down, because it's "weird" he's not 22 years old?

Nathan Peterman got drafted. That’s reality. But yeah most of these guys are going to play ball as long as they’re physically able at whatever level they can for whatever money they can make.

That's absurd. If he's better than Nico and Joe, which is not a crazy high bar, they would absolutely pay him another million for one more year assuming he could find the eligibility.

That is a much more realistic scenario than the idea that they love GMac or Merklinger so much 12 months from now that they tell a good QB who's a known commodity to get lost.

Going to the NFL for a possible career vs staying is the major kicker. It's COMPLETELY out of the realm of possibility for Joey A to get more than a glance at an NFL tryout given his past work.

If...... HUGE IF ...... he has a breakout year, he has his one and only shot at getting a foot in the NFL door based on that amazing year, again.... like Hooker, measured vs staying another year in college.

He'd be an absolute idiot for throwing away the NFL chance on the possibility he has another completely out of character, lightning bolt season at UT.

this is why I hate what if scenarios, the bending and twisting of the IF....here's one for you what if college players just played 4 in 5 then moved on.

What's next? TSSAA getting sued so some 20+ year old home schooled mope wants eligibility to play at MBA.

Exactly…at least you get it…maybe I’ve been a little too optimistic in saying he could be the next Hooker…all the same, even if he’s Nico/Joe or better there’s value in him playing next year and giving Brandon/MacIntyre another year to be ready for 27…

If this scenario plays out…does Aguilar have a case similar enough to Pavia that would grant him another year of eligibility?

Unfortunately, Aguilar looks average thus far in practice. From what I remember, however is that Hooker didn't exactly outshine Milton in practice. He was a vocal leader, but I don't recall hearing him ball out like he did once he was on the field. So, maybe I should be taking these practices with a grain of salt.

Hooker was drastically outplayed by Milton in fall practice. He wasn’t impressive at all. Eventually, the light came on.

If he’s the best option, he’ll play. The guys who see every second of every practice will make that decision.

Lots of angles and possibilities here. We all have an opinion on how it should / will play out.

So...mine. If it's close, gotta start Merk. JA was brought in to replace Nico as "a" QB, not "the" QB. Although I think he can do both.

If you have a clear #1, they start. If it's close, then Merk. I'm assuming that GMac is a year away. Give Merk the first couple or three series. If he moves the offense, then he stays in. If he struggles, then bring in JA. And at that point you have a "live" QB competition.

Heupel has two games to figure it out. The ETSU game should provide an opportunity to see what Merk, JA, and maybe even GMac can do with the 1's. Or 2's. But by UGA week, we need a clear #1. I think JA is a change of pace guy with his ability to throw on the run, and just tuck and run. That could be important as the season progresses.

Personally, I think we will see both Merk and JA start at some point this season, injuries aside. And if neither one separates himself from the pack, then I think we also see both of them in relief as well. This offense is built on tempo, and a QB who can make the correct, quick read. And stretch the defense. Both of them can do it.

The question is, who will do it best? Hopefully, it ends up being fun to watch.

Agreed..And Dobbs looked horrible in practice. I'll wait until JA plays a game here before I get too concerned. If he comes out against Syracuse and goes 8-20 with 3 Int's,s, then I'll worry
