Hyatt opts out of Orange bowl - headed to NFL

When the playoffs expand, you are going to start seeing multiple players opt out. You guys going to be ok with it then? When it's a Vol?

I don’t “like” it at all.

But I definitely get it.

Will be different for sure. Now these bowls are literally meaningless. I mean if you finish 4th or 9th is that going to change the trajectory of your program? If you win a music city bowl will that really make recruits come?

I love the bowls. I wish everyone played and then they may mean a bit more.

However kids have worked for this for a long time. We have all seen guys go down in a bowl game. I’d hate to see Hyatt or someone lose out on an NFL future because of a meaningless bowl game.

Now the playoff will be different; however they will be playing multiple games. Just as in my life I think these guys have to do some soul searching, some good evaluation (and talking to those with knowledge) and do what’s best for them.

Explain how he didn't quit on his team.

I'm not even saying it was a bad decision, he'll probably see no consequences from it. The only people it will affect negatively are his teammates, who he quit on.
How? I guarantee that he teammates don't care...if he gets injured in the bowl game, that will only affect him.

Prepare yourself for a lesson about karma and possibly being called a “smug smartass”. 😂

Dude slings mud on Hyatts character then get pissy when someone slings some mud his way.

I don’t mind. Hyatt literally showed his character with his NIL deal.

He could have easily thought of only himself; however he most likely knew he was done (or if not the next game would be it anyway) and he made sure to thank everyone on his team.

Doing stuff like that when you don’t “have” to……..when no one is asking you to……when no one “expects” you to………..when no one even knows that’s what your doing………..that shows TRUE character!!!!!

I look at it this way, it helps when players have the year Jalin has had. More talent will come if they see it can happen and it makes room for that talent. We cried when Ced went down, then Jalin went nuts. Lets see Squirrel step up in Miami. Be happy

Hate that I'm not going to get to see him in orange one last time but I completely understand. Go get paid!

Everyone championing this "smart decision", you are, of course, more than welcome to swoon over the dagger that is slowly murdering college football, but I love the sport too much to do that.

Think of your all-time college football legends. Your Mannings and Tebows, think as recently as Jennings... hell was going to freeze over before those guys ever "opted out" of a game to focus on themselves. That's all that needs to be said.

Lol college football will be just fine, calm down. You dont like the decision.. we get it.

These bowl opt out threads never disappoint. 😂

Fans are selfish and entitled.

Hyatt has earned the right to make the best decision for his future.

If I've learned anything as I've gotten older, it's that diehard college football fans are some of the most selfish and entitled people I've ever seen. I would say sports fans in general are but especially so for college football fans. A lot of the pissing and moaning they do about players is straight up projection.

They would be contract employees like the coaches are. It wouldn’t be W-2 at-will employment. Schools could impose penalties for opting out just like they collect buyouts from coaches (or the school hiring them) when they leave for other jobs.

Your overall point was making them employees would stop the opt-outs. The two opt-outs we have so far are Hyatt and Tillman, both are leaving to accept multi-million dollar contracts. So what exactly would this "penalty" be that would stop that? And all employment in TN is at-will. Theoretically the university could attempt to put a non-compete in place, but it would be completely unenforceable and ruin recruiting to even try to do so.

But hey, great point about contract employees like Coaches not being able to opt-out. Solid point and smart argument. Alex Golesh says to say hello, BTW.

It's almost they think the players are property.

Fans are selfish and entitled.

This is what it comes down to... at the end of the day we watch this game for entertainment, the comments about "owing a duty to his team" and "life lessons" sound silly.

Most people can't fathom being in a position to set their family up for life. Easy to say what you'd do or what you teach your children. Wishing Jalin all the best! I'm sure his teammates are too.
