Hyams notes on coaching searches

If we dont’t have a coach going into the SEC Championship Game, expect a BIG hire announcement before the game on Saturday, giving us BIG TIME exposure.

So there's a clear frontrunner? I'd say the search is cloudy is highly accurate. He didn't need to cite Currie, he was commenting on various coaches that have been mentioned in searches.

He certainly wouldn't need to cite Currie to say Jimbo likes A&M. It's unrelated

Cloudy to everyone not named Currie. Currie strikes me as someone who wouldn't give a timetable unless he has in mind who he wants and how likely he can get them.

Refreshing to me to see a tight search with little information leaking. I'm almost sure all the leaks are on the side of agents angling for money for their clients.

All I will say is this: The thought that "no one wants this job" is laughable. You can berate me, post nasty things about me in the media for years, boo me in the stadium, do whatever you want, but if I were hired tomorrow at the UT coaching job, I know one thing for sure, and that is no matter how successful or not I was, I will still be able to comfortably retire in 4 or 5 years with millions and millions in the bank. Money talks, and money will eventually be enough to attract a top flight coach.

So, if we don't get a top tier candidate -- should we invoke the Fulmer option? I say, yes. Bite the bullet and go another year looking for the right guy. Making Fulmer the interim coach has worked out very well for us in the past.

Hymans has got very little in the past right. He gets his info at the Torch or hangs around the rock a lot to see what will be put on it.

I am not going to berate you...because you are right....this is a top flight job and money talks.....However, the people who make the decisions do not want to spend top flight money to attract the right coach.

Bring Kiffin Home.....

Hyams had an imaginary friend when he was 10. It packed up and moved to Canada because it too was tired of his lying......

If it’s true that the search is cloudy, we are still incompetent at the top.

If the search is cloudy it is because Hyams' head is in the clouds after smoking whatever it is he has been smoking. Since Currie has made no announcement, Hyams is just as in the dark as the rest of us as far as the search goes. Again, if Currie has an active coach locked into a "gentleman's agreement" that cannot be signed or announced until after his team's last regular season game, they will both keep their mouths shut until the appropriate moment. Perhaps that is why Currie is in the Bahamas, where he can do business without the prying eyes of all of Knoxville. There, he can have coaches' agents come meet him anytime in relative privacy. Also, he is far away from his office phone... but his assistants and other VIPs can get ahold of him if needed. I think he is playing it pretty smart. I think Currie has a better coach lined up than Kenny Perry, at least I hope so.

100% agree. I may or may not like who Currie hires, but I like how he's conducted it so far.

Hyams Notes

Add you can see your first mistake, right?

Hyams regurgitates the exact same stick every time he’s on the radio... and doesn’t know any more than this board!

Given the 5 million threads on how Gruden is coming here, I'd say he has exponentially more common sense than this board.

He just gave a "list" without naming anyone he considers likely to be hired. I mean hell, I could do that. Hyams is so scared to death of being wrong, he never sticks his neck out for anything and is actually quite boring as a result.
Thanks for the non-info once again, Jimmy.

Bill Clark successfully navigated the ultimate dumpster fire in Birmingham. Someone with his grit and courage might do well at the SEC level.

I don't know if Tennessee would go this route. Would be really down the list I believe.

But what he has done at UAB has been amazing!

He started getting Alabama's recruits to start listening to him. Made Alabama board of trustees cancel the UAB football program because he was actually starting to make noise at UAB .

They had a few emails get uncovered about how Alabama tried giving its own sister school the death penalty out of fear of what was going on with Bill Clark there.

Very good coach, very limited sampling

Please let the Hyams jokes pass on by...

Hyams source gave him these notes

-Mullen likes A&M
-Jimbo also likes A&M
-Mullen a great coach, labeled a "weird duck" was widely disliked by people at UF
- Shiano would jump on the UT job, would be a bad fit, very unlikeable
-Fuente does not like to move around
-Frost likely to Nebraska, if not Nebraska may stay put
-No way Patterson leaves
-Gundy not as happy as years past, but wife loves it there

UT search very cloudy with no clear frontrunner.

Don't wnt any of those anyway. Where is Petersen

Ok, and anyone that is not in the tiny group with Currie has been giving lists, but yeah, let's complain at this one guy. The guy who was saying the Jones was going to coach through the UK game, and was called an idiot, but he was right.

And those crying like a teenage girl about his list, and trying to givr information, are the same ones who were crying about Currie not giving information. So when a guy tries to give some out, with the limited amount that anyone has been given, he's treated like ****. Makes sense.

Why do we assume that UT is the only university that offers millions? There were coaches that settled for less money to stay where they were at in the last search, unless what I heard was a lie.

After the last two coaching hires, and because there is a crowded field of suitors, I would rather us just go with an interim coach as a caretaker until we find the right guy. I feel like with the early signing period and the competition to land a coach before he is picked up by another school, we are once again being rushed into a coaching hire, just like when we hired Dooley. Hope it is not the case.

Miles. Schiano, Norvell, Taggart , or Campbell would all be great hires at Tennessee. And Tennessee could land them.

For the type of offense that Frost runs, can he recruit that type of talent to Nebraska? Would we be a better option?
