Hyams notes on coaching searches

someone speaking the truth over and over is not nagging, its you not listening to the truth.

Why would an employed P5 coach making P5 money want to leave his school for UT? This job is the definition of career suicide. ifs it a good job and a strong school that can be turned around? Yup. The problem is most fans will be expecting at least an SEC championship year 2 minimum and a Natty by year 3. The former is unrealistic, the latter plain nuts. Funny enough unrealistic and plain nuts seems to describe 90% of the vocal members of Vol Nation lately. Not all vols fans just the ones that make all the noise, stalk folks on twitter and call into shows.

Career suicide is right.

I don't understand why the A&M job is just SOOO much more attractive than ours. Yes Texas is a big state to recruit in. However they still have to compete with Texas, they have to compete with Oklahoma, they have to compete with LSU, not to mention the cherry picking that the other SEC and Big 12 teams do in that state.

To hear people tell it, you'd never think UT is one of the top 10 football programs all-time and has great facilities and fan support, as well as lots of money. Nope.... People talk like UT is Roto Rooter State.

Hyams suggesting that Frost would stay at UCF before taking the Tennessee job torpedoes whatever credibility (lol) he might have had.

My new order is
Frost
Norvell
Mullen
Strong
And i’ll Just have to go with Kiffin because the dude is crazy talented, even with the drama

In that order........I think bringing Kiffin back would be great. Recruiting QBs would be easy and we know by his time here he would absolutely compete with better teams. Plus Saban would hate it and Smart would fear him.

Typically ADs go th the opposite way from previous hire. So that probably means Currie would favor Mullen or Campbell over Frost or Norvell. I think his list is like Petersen, Fisher, Mullen, Campbell, Taggart, Frost, Sumlin, Brohm, Norvell.

Please let the Hyams jokes pass on by...

Hyams source gave him these notes

-Mullen likes A&M
-Jimbo also likes A&M
-Mullen a great coach, labeled a "weird duck" was widely disliked by people at UF
- Shiano would jump on the UT job, would be a bad fit, very unlikeable
-Fuente does not like to move around
-Frost likely to Nebraska, if not Nebraska may stay put
-No way Patterson leaves
-Gundy not as happy as years past, but wife loves it there

UT search very cloudy with no clear frontrunner.

A replay of 2012.......pleas say it ain't so:banghead2:

I would take Kiffin before Mullen. Kiffin has a higher ceiling imo

I don’t agree with your statement that “most fans expect an SEC champion ship in year 2 and a Natty by year 3”. I don’t think that’s accurate at all.

I think “most” expect our team to play good, sound, competitive football and simply win a bad, if not just downright horrible SEC East division....that’s it, win the East, just get to the SECCG and then let’s see what happens. Anything else beyond that is gravy. Yes, win 9-11 games on average, which is essentially winning the 6 games on the schedule we should always win, and then split the toughest remaining 6, or GOD forbid, win 4 or 5 out of those 6 on occasion. I don’t think those expectations are unreasonable given our resources as compared to most every other team we will play.

I can honestly say that if the Vols do those things and never win another national title in my lifetime (I’m 50), that I’ll be a pretty happy little Vol fan.
