Hurricane Irma

My son lives and works in Key West. He and his family initially went to Sarasota when it looked like the storm was tracking east. When it shifted they decided to come stay with my wife and I and our other 2 kids. We all live in a Nashville suburb within 10 minutes of each other. They left Sarasota at midnight yesterday and drove non stop except for gas and bathroom breaks. He texted and said he is an hour away. It will end up taking about 22 hours. He said it took over 4 hours to get through Atlanta. And they have 2 dogs and 2 cats in the car with them, on top of the 4 human passengers. Holy crap, I'm glad I don't have to make that trip.

Wow, glad they're safe.

Yikes.

Key West is gonna get crushed by this thing. Everyone needs to be off the island at this point.

The weather channel is awesome. They keep trying to get live reports from Major Nicole Michell from the eye of the hurricane and for some reason they can't maintain contact with her. They keep trying though.

I think the Tampa area is in for something pretty bad. You guys hang in there.

Tampa, Naples, fort Myers, key west, Miami. Nobody's safe. I hope as many people got out as possible. By tomorrow afternoon, it'll be too late.

I'm not a weather officianado , but I'm a weather nerd because i get so engaged with it. I always watch these dumb weather channel shows about worst case scenario, and I recall the Tampa one about a major hurricane.

I'm a weather nerd too. I recall the EF5 tornado in Dallas and an 8.0 earthquake in Memphis episodes too. I believe the special was "It could happen tomorrow"

I live in Georgia.

Yes, forgot that for a second! I saw a van with Florida plates tonight here in Knoxville pulling into a hotel off Cedar Bluff. Could have been from anything but I assumed Irma evacuee.

Probably so, there is a lot of people going anywhere to get away!

I can't imagine the cost of hotel rooms. They would have already been high for the game this weekend not to add on raising prices on evacuees.

I have a bad feeling there will be a lot more casualties in Florida because they paid special care to evacuate the southeast side of Florida. Some people even evacuated over to the west side in places like Naples. Now the storm has shifted further west and I'm seeing CNN and The Weather Channel already slowly trying and talk their way out of any possible responsibility.
