Hurricane Irma

I'm in a shelter in Sarasota county. We wanted to ride it out but were afraid of the wind dangers. Heard too many horror stories of sitting in a closet for 10+ hours while your house gets ripped apart.. Plus my daughter is 14 months and I didn't want her in one closet for that long... and it's kinda nice being surrounded by your community.

The people trying to " ride it out " are about to find out the difference between a Hurricane and a really big t-storm . Hopefully everyone survives to understand it .

Looks like it may strengthen back up before landfall. It looks extremely nasty, hope everyone stays safe.

It's amazing how quickly Irma shored up her core and got healthy after clearing that last mountain range in the middle of Cuba. She really looks ready to reintensify.

Apparently it's reorganizing rapidly

Too late to get them out now. People that stay during mandatory evacs drive me, no wait people that stay and expect someone to try and come get them when the shtf, drive me nuts. Do not expect or demand people to put their life on the line when it's your blatant stupidity and disregard that got you there.

Edit: Those of you hunkered down in the path, don't take offense to that. My rant basically stems from us trying to evacuate people ahead of a flood that was coming, they refusing to leave, then 30 to 45 minutes later calling 911 for someone to come get them because the water was rising.

Everyone stay safe and hang on.

It's mandatory if you purchase property in a flood zone. They designate flood zones pretty damn liberally so a lot of folks have to get it. I just bought a house a few months ago and I was just barely inside a flood zone, seriously by a few yards. So I had to get it. Neighbors say this neighborhood has never flooded as long as they've been here. We'll see.
It isn't mandatory unless you have a loan. You can self insure if you pay cash.

Still moving WNW at 7 MPH.

4-7 hours in the gulf will allow it to reorganize and intensify quick
