Hurd Transfer Options

This young man obviously doesn't have his head in the right place, that is for sure. He screwed the pooch in multiple ways on this one.

1. He has made it harder to get drafter. Not Marquez North, but similar.

2. Transferring might be a hard road too, given that he only has one year of eligibility.

THIS!! "Transferring might be a hard road too, given that he only has one year of eligibility." As a major football program or power are you going to take a youngster FOR ONE YEAR who brings all the baggage he does with him as a malcontent AND is on the public record he wants to change positions to WR or TE? Ready to take that transformation on and the ensuing public blame game by his people (he has people you know) if it doesn't work out so well???

He's not getting drafted until the 6th round at best without a year of game film at TE. That said, there's always a chance that he has an excellent combine and would make for an intriguing 3rd-4th rounder. I just don't see it, though. He's a good athlete overall, but he's slow as far as RB's go. I'd be surprised if he could break 4.6 electronically.

Speaking of Marquez North and his situation being kinda similar to Hurd's. I think ppl need to start paying attention to this, that two guys with a lot of NFL potential had their draft stock plummet their junior years, ended up 'splitting' with the program because it would be good for both sides, and more than likely (I'm assuming with Hurd) went undrafted. Why has a similar situation happened with two guys? Almost the same thing, mysterious injuries and hardly playing at all. Hurd just decided not to stick out the season like North did. Both guys should not have left for the NFL and did. Something is up with the staff and examples like this will be used against us in recruiting.

He's not getting invited to the combine. Also, he may not even get a pro day. It is very likely to pan out that way which is why I don't think he's getting drafted.

It was truly dumb of him to up and quit. Jmo

Yup it speaks to one's character. And yes Nfl scouts will pound on him over this at any combine. You had like 4 or 5 games left and couldn't man up and get through it someway or another. True the read option isn't designed for a back of his size. Should have just gritted it out though. Now he's in no man's land. No team. Was having a down year and quit on your team.

Bingo....

Another bad aspect concerning the Hurd decision is that it gave all of us something else to talk about other than the removal of our line coach and OC. They do it in politics all the time and that is what we are doing here. As bad as I feel about Jalen, there is still the glaring need for some changes to be made on the offensive side of the ball and I fear that those things are not even being talked about now.

This kid isn't transferring. That's just a bunch BS. He has been saving himself for that draft all year.

I read the graduate transfer rule and didn't see where he would have to graduate by December anyway. The way I read it he could stay at UT for Spring Semester, graduate, and then transfer. I may have missed something but all it refers to is the academic year which would end in spring 17.

You are correct. He can graduate in Spring (or even summer). He was an early enrollee, so he has already had 6 full semesters (counting this semester) and 4 summers. If he stays here one more semester, he can very easily graduate, if he already isn't graduating.

According to the text message I just received he is still a full time enrolled student. Weird, because I don't remember going to school for free and now he's no different than I was a some years ago. Sorry to be a jerk, but that's how a scholarship works. He shouldn't be a part of the school at all now.

Agree. He should be on his own dime.

Don't need a new OC.

The problem now is that the team won't be evaluated the same.

If there is vast improvement, it's because the schedule became much easier.

So the whole Hurd saga has been engineered to distract us from talking about the coaching situation? Now that is one of the more intriguing conspiracy theories ever.

I really don't care where he goes. I don't wish ill will on him and thank him for the 2 quality years but unfortunately I have a hard time forgiving quitting with 4 games left in the season.

Hell, he quit DURING the SCAR game and I'm not so sure he didn't quit in the UGA game.

Like CBJ said, I hope he finds what he looking for.

My guess is that Hurd is legitimately wanting to change positions and doesn't want to "waste" time sticking around until late Dec/early January practicing for a meaningless bowl game. So he's bailing now and will immediately start working with a TE coach and have 6 months to learn the position before the draft.

He future is RB... changing positions really don't work this late in his career . see Croom..

He's probably being allowed to complete the semester. His tuition is already paid. The AD isn't going to get a refund. They wouldn't get a housing refund either.

No point in being petty. If he finishes this semester and walks, all is good.

Don't they pay that out at the BEGINNING of the semester?
