There’s also a difference in overrated and improving 3 different teams from year 1.

And coaching Mississippi to their best 3 year stretch in over 50 years.

If a coach took Tennessee to their best stretch in over 50 years I doubt you would say they were overrated.

This is not a kind and gentle league. Not a lot of benevolence. And Hugh has enemies everywhere. He’s known as a backstabber and fraud in the coaching community. Not only would that make it hard for him to hire an SEC caliber staff, but also would also put a scarlet letter around his neck on the recruiting trail.

Let’s say Hugh goes into Houston to recruit a kid and starts talking about how “Jimbo Fisher just isn’t a man of faith” (like he has absolutely done in the past). You don’t think Ross Bjork is going to say “alright Hugh, you want to go there?” Again, $16M and didn’t get a dime. You think the man doesn’t have skeletons that the league and people in Memphis know about?

The man is not hireable in the SEC. period. And regardless of what Hugh Freeze tells you, Hugh Freeze was never remotely in play at South Carolina or Auburn or Southern Miss or Memphis last year or all those OC jobs he claimed. What you need to understand about Hugh is, if his mouth is moving he’s lying.

And I’m no moralist. I’d take Kiffin or James Franklin here in 2 seconds.

“He only got busted at Ole Miss because he beat Bama twice”. LOL. Saban went to the playoff and won the NC the two years he lost to Ole Miss.




Nobody cares that Hugh cheated at Ole Miss. everyone cheats. No one really cares about the call girls. But when you market yourself, your program, and your recruiting strategy as Joel Olsteen Light you better walk the walk. Hugh didn’t and doesnt. And if you think he gave up $16M over just some phone numbers on a call log...come on.

Do I think Hugh is a good coach? Yes. In a one off situation where I have to win a game? He’s on the short list. As a program builder and sustainer? No. And let’s keep something real: had he coached in 2017 he was going to be fired at Ole Miss bc that team had begun to tune him out. They went 6-6 bc they were playing hard for Matt Luke. They weren’t going 6-6 under Hugh Freeze.

And I won’t even get into the tweeting and the Briarcrest stuff.

Sorry this was kinda rambling. I just can’t tell you how vehemently against a Hugh Freeze hire I would be.

He had to cheat his a** off and still did nothing other than the two upsets of Bama. 19-21 SEC record. I’m tired of hiring SEC losers who can’t even go .500 in conference. He took the best team he had bought and cheated on exams to get and lost to Memphis by 3 TDs.

He got a lot more than 2 upsets of bama.

He took over a 2-10 Mississippi team and in his first year they won a bowl......within 4 years he had led them to their best 3 year stretch in over 50 years.

That hasn’t happened for Tennessee since Fumer’s first half year.

He took over a 4-8 Ark state and in his first year they went 10-3.......their 2nd best record “ever.”

He took over a 6-6 Liberty team and in his first year they went 8-5......and just 3 seasons into being D1 took them to an 10-1 record with a bowl win.

I get it you don’t like him.......but it is what it is......he builds programs, and he wins games, and he knows offense.

A lot of people also don’t realize that during his last year half his team transferred and 2/3s of his team was injured. Plus, it’s ole miss. You can’t just reload every year. You have to rebuild and his only “rebuild” year he went 5-7. That’s like an 8-4 here. He’s butch but he doesn’t bottom out.

Mullen was 33-39 at Mississippi State, finishing better than .500 in conference only once in nine seasons.

I just finished watching Coach Freeze give his talk at Liberty University Convocation from 2018. I watched with my wife....and I asked her this one question......."Tell me whatcha think about this guy?" She astounded me with her response. She said that man is begging to make right a wrong. I asked her if she as a UT football fan.....would you want this fella as the football coach? "ABSOLUTELY!!" Her BS meter is much bigger than mine. She was clear in her thoughts....I agree with her on this. This man has been broken. He had to hit rock bottom. He has something bigger to do. I am hopeful that one day he gets the opportunity....I really do. I think that he makes the same difference that Coach Barnes has made. I truly do. A true redemption story.....I just hope that my alma mater gives him this chance. I have watched this talk 5 or 6 times now. I think that you are truly seeing a man that had hit rock bottom....I truly do. I think that he knows what led him there and I am confident that he knows the right way forward.

Whew, finally at last the definitive blow to his candidacy has been struck. I googled "Freeze SEC" and the first thing that popped up was an article published yesterday by John Adams who is wholeheartedly supporting UT vetting Hugh Freeze. This completes the unholy alliance with him and the devil and will surely influence the power brokers to forbid his name to be spoken again in these conversations. I am guessing that there were some quality people still debating him being involved in this and future searches. We can all rest easy now. Adams has bravely led Knoxville print sports journalism down the tube and is surely trying to take the UT Coaching position down with him. Yet another epic fail for him. Hated to even give him a click, but needed to read his dribble rather than just assume more of the same. I know more people that take the NS for the obituaries than the sports. Maybe this is going to be his parting shot and he will get the heck out of here. Maybe this is his year in the rotation that the print media folks in Tennessee will give him an award and he can go out on top. YEAH.

Went searching the web this morning on the Freeze man and immediately saw where John Adams had entered the discussion. I hate clicking on his stuff, but had to in order to KNOW what his position was. The human gad fly has now indeed put the poison pill in the Freeze candidacy. I searched FREEZE SEC and it popped up immediately. He has in fact advised UT to take on Freeze.. So there you have it. No way in the world a reasonable human can take advice from the man who has led the tragic decline in local print journalism. He has even defied the Blind Hog theories we have all accepted all our lives, at least for the last 15 years. I am hoping this was his last hurrah and he will be leaving Knoxville to go home and influence cajuns up close and personal. We have endured him enough. Take a stiff drink or two and go read his piece of work. I shudder to think how many times Grantland Rice has turned over in his grave over this guy.
