I have been clear many times that I don’t think Freeze could get it done here. My reasoning is different from yours though. I think Saban, Kirby, and the like would beat Freeze over the head with his baggage when it comes to recruiting.

What percentage of today's 16-17 year old athletes do you think really care that he may have solicited a prostitute?

The 16-17 year old athletes probably don’t care. The problem is the parents are the biggest influence on them. This is most likely the biggest decision they have had to face thus far in their life. Makes sense that the parents are leaned on heavily to help a 16-17 year old make a life altering decision doesn’t it? Coaches recruit parents as well as the kid because they know it’s a family decision.

I like Harbaugh and Herman better and they may be available next year.
Harbaugh has double digits from his MI team in the transfer portal THIS YEAR. Something like 15% of his team is either in the portal or declaring for the draft...... in one year.

As for Herman, Google "Tom Herman Zach Smith infidelity"........ and here we go again with the Freeze issues.

Do you have any idea the kind of skeletons that you have to have in your closet to not get one dime of a $16M buyout? With the best agent in the business representing you?

Art Briles got $15M.

This is not a kind and gentle league. Not a lot of benevolence. And Hugh has enemies everywhere. He’s known as a backstabber and fraud in the coaching community. Not only would that make it hard for him to hire an SEC caliber staff, but also would also put a scarlet letter around his neck on the recruiting trail.

Let’s say Hugh goes into Houston to recruit a kid and starts talking about how “Jimbo Fisher just isn’t a man of faith” (like he has absolutely done in the past). You don’t think Ross Bjork is going to say “alright Hugh, you want to go there?” Again, $16M and didn’t get a dime. You think the man doesn’t have skeletons that the league and people in Memphis know about?

The man is not hireable in the SEC. period. And regardless of what Hugh Freeze tells you, Hugh Freeze was never remotely in play at South Carolina or Auburn or Southern Miss or Memphis last year or all those OC jobs he claimed. What you need to understand about Hugh is, if his mouth is moving he’s lying.

And I’m no moralist. I’d take Kiffin or James Franklin here in 2 seconds.

“He only got busted at Ole Miss because he beat Bama twice”. LOL. Saban went to the playoff and won the NC the two years he lost to Ole Miss.

Nobody cares that Hugh cheated at Ole Miss. everyone cheats. No one really cares about the call girls. But when you market yourself, your program, and your recruiting strategy as Joel Olsteen Light you better walk the walk. Hugh didn’t and doesnt. And if you think he gave up $16M over just some phone numbers on a call log...come on.

Do I think Hugh is a good coach? Yes. In a one off situation where I have to win a game? He’s on the short list. As a program builder and sustainer? No. And let’s keep something real: had he coached in 2017 he was going to be fired at Ole Miss bc that team had begun to tune him out. They went 6-6 bc they were playing hard for Matt Luke. They weren’t going 6-6 under Hugh Freeze.

And I won’t even get into the tweeting and the Briarcrest stuff.

Sorry this was kinda rambling. I just can’t tell you how vehemently against a Hugh Freeze hire I would be.

Regarding the 15% number. Doesn’t most teams lose about 25% of their scholarship players each year in theory ?

Gus is now set for life and doesn’t need the money.
A lack of financial security would be the only reason he would come to this dumpster fire.

Gus was set for life before he was fired. They don’t coach for the money.

I have no idea if he would be willing to coach again anywhere, but the vast majority of coaching positions that come open are at places where the program is down.

Our emotions drive our opinions, but objectively, UT is a great job even in its current state.

You must be living in an alternate universe. UT is not a desirable job. The 2017 coaching search proved it and many sportscasters comment that there is a lot of dysfunction with the administration and donors/boosters that scares many HC candidates away.

2017 is not a useful yardstick, not at all.

Currie botched the job so badly, it really tells us absolutely nothing about how coveted this job is.

Note, I'm not saying there isn't some dysfunction among the administration and power brokers surrounding the program. I don't know if there is or not. Just saying that 2017 is no way to gauge the desirability of this head coaching position.

1. DE Aaron Lewis (transfer) (07/20/2020) (Rutgers)
2. CB Ambry Thomas (opt out) (08/20/2020)
3. WR Nico Collins (opt out) (09/16/2020)
4. QB Dylan McCaffrey (opt out) (09/16/2020)
5. WR Kyle McNamara (transfer) (09/21/2020) (Western Kentucky)
6. LB Osman Savage (transfer) (10/01/2020)
7. LB Charles Thomas (transfer) (10/21/2020)
8. OL Zach Carpenter (transfer) (12/10/2020)
9. _P Will Hart (transfer) (12/16/2020)
10. OL Jalen Mayfield (early entry) (12/18/2020) (NFL)
11. RB Christian Turner (transfer) (12/19/2020)
12. DC Don Brown (fired) (12/22/2020)
13. LB Cameron McGrone (early entry) (12/29/2020) (NFL)
14. PK Quinn Nordin (early entry) (12/29/2020) (NFL)

I didn't compile that list and even if you allow for the 3 COVID year opt outs....... that's a lot of transfers. Granted, MI sucks...... but Harbaugh isn't building a program like that.

The poll was: do you “want” Tennessee to hire Freeze.

Not too many on here seriously saying Freeze would be the coach on a certain date.

“If” you want......Pruitt to stay.....I feel for you. Most simply “want” better.....that “want” isn’t going to “die down.”
There’s a difference in wanting Pruitt to be coach and not wanting a cheating overrated coach with tons of baggage and a losing SEC record to be your coach too

Not saying I agree with all of that, but always remember that preacherwebb gave you your first like on volnation.
