Will you vote for Desantis? You know he has been a steady hand for Florida.
Depends on who he runs against and that's true of Senator or POTUS.
Last time he was up for Governor I could not vote for him due to the Disney nonsense, which in our view down here was so obviously concocted to create a social wedge issue out of thin air. BUT, I also did not vote against him. Did not vote in that particular office because the Dem was Charlie Crist and I could not vote for him in good conscience either. I just skipped that on the ballot.

the state can cut spending 40 billion. Bring in DOGE and find waste and corruption.Ok.
But Florida property taxes generate over $40 billion a year, for a budget of about $110 billion. Where that $40 billion going to get made up?

I have always tho't the little town I live in should get rid of property taxes and implement a car tax...live in the city limits and own a car..pay $200 tax for each car owned. I have not seen the town's books but I'm guessing this would raise more money than what they are taking in on property taxes...everybody pays it...everybody pays the same...don't pay the tax car gets towed and impounded and sold if tax and applicable fees are not paid in 30 days.
As I say, I get the logic.
Any politician can decry taxes and give a good reason for it, and get applause.

But then you have to actually manage the budget.

when people renew registration every year pay tax at that time or car does not get registered. Its about a third of the budget. I don't see DOGE having anywhere close to that kind of impact.
And we have trouble enough down here just catching people driving uninsured. Its rampant. How you are going to tax cars seems really difficult.

For retired fixed income people, $200 is far less than what they are paying in property taxes. It's a fair tax where all pay and all pay the same.
true, but it's more fair than property tax, everyone pays and it's affordable. No one then can be put out of their house and onto the street.Still it's a tax on property. People shouldn't be forced to pay a tax to keep and use property they own.
Yes I realize vehicle registration is nothing more than a tax.

they are able to enforce people to pay property taxes they could easily enforce car taxes.I just seriously doubt enforceability given our poor track record as is on even more serious problems.

FLA is looking to other taxes:
