I agree, Fulmer has given him a second honeymoon....I think if he doesn't make a bowl next year, he's kind of teetering. Could go either way. It might depend on who he loses to next year and how the team looks in those losses. Either the trigger gets pulled November 2020, or 2021 needs to be some huge improvement (e.g., 8-4/9-3) or he's fired. I really think this "give him 5-6 years" stuff goes out the window if he's here 3 years and his best record is 5-7. Even Dooley and Butch did better than that.
I think there's zero, absolutely zero, chance he's fired after this season. Even if we go 1-11.
If Pruitt still hasn’t made a bowl game by the 2021 season but is still recruiting decently how much longer should we give him to get it turned around I’ve heard some fans say he needs 5 to 6 seasons minimum.
Tennessee was better than Florida almost every time from 92-2001? I only remember 2 times in that period that we were ranked ahead of Florida when we played? 1996, was one of them and Florida won the national title that year. Fulmer won 3 of 10 against them and they were ranked higher each of those times, and in 2001 they were an 18 point favorite against us when we won. I know he had trouble winning against them, but when looked at it in that time frame, they were considered the better team almost every year.I get confused on turning around time. It always seems that the new coach must go out and recruit 4 and 5 star talent in abundance in order to compete. What ever happened to winning with the weaker team? Spurrier had the weaker team on the majority of games versus Fulmer but almost always came out on top. If you don't hire the head coach because he can out smart the coach on the other sideline why pay them the big bucks, just hire the top recruiter in the country?
Remember boy butch? As long as he was a "super duper, none better, greatest of all time" recruiter, he got an extension and a raise! Now, if we have learned anything from the boy butch years, winning should be far more important than "building brick by brick- no matter how long it takes", GS/BYU type -L- should never happen again. Good news, we have some real cupcakes next year, but we have to play some of those pesky SEC teams....
We're not really recruiting that great. We are currently No. 23 on the composite, which is good enough for 11th out of the 14 SEC teams. Last year, I think we finished No. 12 but 7th in the SEC. We were in it for some really big names and seemed to have some momentum with several in August but then this turd of a season was laid and most of that went south. If we finish in the Top 15 again that would be amazing under the circumstances but we still won't be able to out talent a lot of the people on our schedule. If Pruitt still hasn’t made a bowl game by the 2021 season but is still recruiting decently how much longer should we give him to get it turned around I’ve heard some fans say he needs 5 to 6 seasons minimum.

I meant on paper, if you believe recruiting rankings over the last 4-5 years. On the field, you are correct, we certainly don't perform better than 9 of our opponents.
I brought that up because I've seen many places (both here on VN and from national media types) that Tennessee is struggling because of a "lack of talent." Every time I hear that, my next thought is "Well, relative to who?" Lack of talent explains why we aren't competitive with Georgia, Alabama, and you can argue Florida.
It doesn't explain why we lost to Georgia St, BYU, have lost 5 of the last 7 to Vanderbilt, and have consistently lost to teams like South Carolina and Mizzou over the last several years. Tennessee has more talent on the field than all of those schools. I totally agree that we've lost LOS battles when we play those schools, but my question then is "Why?" We didn't lose a LOS battle with Georgia St because Georgia St's lines are more talented.

Yeah this is the biggest issue I have with a lot of posters. They take all this so personally and almost find their self worth in how well the Vols are in a given year. It’s absolutely silly and immature. The name calling of former and present coaches is a huge indicator of that type of individual and I’ve learned to scan past most of them. Now I realize a lot of those folks aren’t really Vol fans but inevitably some are. It really wears old and CPF is not going to fire CJP this year or next (barring unforeseen non football related issues). I find myself visiting this site less and less because it never changes with the usual characters. I’ll still be there supporting the Vols win or lose. Let’s hope the winning comes soon!It amazes me how many people are so bitter they want us to lose to validate their wish for him to be fired rather than be happy if he improves greatly over the next few years.
