How long is Pruitt’s leash ?

Butch went bowling in second year, went 8-4 with one score loss to Alabama and OT loss to playoff Oklahoma in third year, Top 10 ranking in 4th year .. we still fired him in 5th .... Butch barely kept in job by going 9-4 two years in a row .. Pruitt isn't going bowling this year and aint going 9-4 next. I think the leash should not exist. We should have fired Butch after second 9-4 year with all that talent .. we should fire Pruitt end of the season.

Agreed.

They should have fired Jones the moment he hit Crowder, with cause. They should fire Pruitt next time he coaches the last two minutes of the half like he did last week.

I think if he doesn't make a bowl next year, he's kind of teetering. Could go either way. It might depend on who he loses to next year and how the team looks in those losses. Either the trigger gets pulled November 2020, or 2021 needs to be some huge improvement (e.g., 8-4/9-3) or he's fired. I really think this "give him 5-6 years" stuff goes out the window if he's here 3 years and his best record is 5-7. Even Dooley and Butch did better than that.

I think there's zero, absolutely zero, chance he's fired after this season. Even if we go 1-11.
Imagine a poll before Pruitt was hired that said he wouldn't make it to a bowl until year four.

We would have Vol Twitter'd two coaches in two months.

Easier to drop expectations one ass whooping at a time I guess.

Now that he has his guy at quarterback, his assessment as a coach should begin starting with last Saturday.

December 2020 will tell us all we need to know. A poor performance next year will earn him a lucrative buyout. The powers that be think they hold the decision making ability but the empty seats in Neyland are much more powerful as an indicator of what will happen.

It really shouldn’t be that hard.

Georgia St
BYU
UTC
SC
UAB
Kentucky
Vandy
And even Missouri (if needed)

No reason at all Tennessee shouldn’t have expected a bowl this year with this roster.

Same next year as well. Tennessee adds Oklahoma but also adds Arkansas.

I’m hopeful Tennessee wins at least 6 next year.......but I won’t expect it until Tennessee shows they can beat many of these teams in a season.
LOL. I'm starting to wonder if you had actually seen the roster before posting this

If we go to a bowl game this yr Pruitt gets an extension on his contract for stability, not saying he should but I believe he will.

He isn't halfway thru his original contract. No chance he gets an extension unless we win out and win the bowl game lol.

This
and I've seen on paper after attrition and portals UT was still 14 or 15 in recruiting stars/points as a whole team. 1 behind UF and also behind in no order Bama, UGA, LSU, Auburn & T A&M.
Just hard to understand how the Star system works for these 6 SEC teams, shows up on field but does not for us. Two of those teams have recent HC changes also A&M & UF.
Looking at our next 3 schedules this year was probably the easiest but things can change.
The LOS is THE issue. We have not recruited depth/talent at either LOS for 2019. The talent has been recruited for the OL to be very good next year, but not this season. At DT/NT/DE, we're still grossly lacking depth. THAT is why we are in the position we are in. You can have AA's at LB and DB, but if you can't stop teams at the LOS and put pressure on the QB on passing downs, you aren't going to win a lot of games. And, if you can't run the ball, you aren't going to win much either.

Yea

I can assure you

Ga ST
BYU
UTC
UAB
Vandy

Do not have a considerably better roster than Tennessee has. I highly doubt Missouri, Kentucky and SC have a “considerably better” roster than Tennessee.

Tennessee beat a pretty good Kentucky team last year and beat Auburn......so it “can” be done.......it just isn’t.

we've only played 3 of those teams and if you don't have an even average QB you can kiss those games goodbye

Your right

But doesn’t take away from the statement.

None of those teams have a roster that says “hey there's no way Tennessee can beat us”

Tennessee has on its roster a QB that was playing when they beat Kentucky and Auburn last year. He isn’t currently the starter......nor should he be.......but he is on the roster.

You could argue that he should be fired should we lose 9 games this season, but I think he gets 2020 to turn things around barring an off the field scandal. He has to make a bowl game in 2020, though, if he wants to keep his job. If he can't make a bowl game by year 3, there's no reason to believe he's going to get us where we want to go in the long run.

Pretty long, he got all kinda folks snowed over...he actually might be a genius..

He has fans arguing that
1. He doesnt have the talent to compete in the sec but...
2. We have a chance at making a bowl at 1-4 with only one non sec game remaining.

I can be patient about recruiting to rebuild the roster and I can be patient about player development with the young kids. No problem.

What I am not patient with is chronic misalignment and motion penalties, not being able to get a play off after the 1st quarter break, horrible tackling, defensive missed assignments and most of all, a team that looks unprepared and poorly coached and a head coach who looks completely bored.
