Once LaDarrell McNeil signed, media was hyping him up as if he will be starting right away. I havent heard anything about him this summer. Is he still on the team, and if so how is he doing? Sorry if I have missed something. Ive kept up with all the practice videos and updates and havent heard him mentioned once. Thanks for the feedback.

Never heard the media say he would start right away. Did hear that alot on VN though. It's tough for a freshman to come in and start immediately unless a team is depleted like we were 2 years ago.

Shows how paranoid this fan base is when the first question is...

He's practicing, have seen him at the Milligan / Science Hill camp. Assume he is learning like all the other Freshman. Excited about his future once he learns the system, kid is a head hunter for sure.

I heard it from Low and Aschoff around signing day. They touted him as if he was one of the biggest names in the class.

Unless their that good, I rather us not have to play freshman.

Q Watson will be seeing playing time and Justin Meredith as well. I wouldnt be shocked if Phillips made it into the lineup. There are several Wrs I wouldnt be shocked to see (e.g., Pig, Croom, Bowles). They will probably see the field during Special Teams. The likelihood of freshman not playing is silly. Bullock may even end up starting.

EA said he was having a good camp sometime last week. Nothing specific though.

While we are a lot deeper than we have been, we will still be forced to play some Freshman this year. Especially at WR... Croom and Pig will see some time.

Phillips prob will too, but I think it'll be a couple weeks before he does. Seems pretty out of shape.

Meredith can't stay healthy. Pig is missing out on fall camp. It's going to take Phillips a while to get into shape.

Mainly what you and a lot of other posters need to realize is that when you have depth and talent at certain positions, it is a great thing when freshman can't come in and start. Look at the Bama's and LSUs of the league. They don't start very many freshman or even second year players. Every year they have one or two that make a contribution but they are usually a combination of Really talented and at a thin position.

Brewer is a Senior. Randolph is a Sophomore stud. I just don't see McNeil beating either out with Moore and Wilks being behind them.

On to the others you mentioned in the quote above, Q will play in some specific plays designed for him and the return game. Meredith will only play due to us having no depth, but he has been banged up and even the coaches haven't been able to get a read on him so I don't know how you know he will play... Palardy sounds like he is doing better and Bullock had a horrible scrimmage. I don't think he beats out Palardy, but again if he does its not like there is talent or depth at the position.

he was one of the biggest names in the class - if Brewer struggles or has an injury I wouldnt be suprised to see McNeil sneak into the starting lineup by year's end

that being said - it is a great thing to not have many freshman be able to crack the starting lineup - I do think he is one that could as there are some ?marks in the secondary

If you have a signing class of 25 you don't want most of them starting. That's not good for your program. Five or six is ok if they have the talent. Nothing wrong with redshirting most of your signees it at least shows you have some depth.

Phillips will get into shape and probably backup McCullers with Hood.

You dont' just "get" into shape in a couple of months to play SEC level football. Especially at the DT postition and especially as out of shape as he is reported to be. He'll probably need a year in Ron McKeefry's S&C program before he's ready. He might see some limited playing time/mop up duty later in the season but I'd say, barring injury, he will probably redshirt this year. I'd love to see O'Brien get redshirted as well but I don't know if that will happen.

I think D. Bonner has the best chance of any Fr. at seeing significant playing time this year. Justin King may be second, he is very athletic and probably the most underrated recruit in last year's class.

Meredith isn't physically ready to play, Phillips is apparently incredibly out of shape and that won't be fixed over night. Not sure about McNeil, but nobody expected him to start.

I disagree. I bet he can be in at least serviceable SEC shape when the season starts. Maybe not elite, but definitely serviceable.
