Trump Says U.S.‘Losing’ Afghan War in Tense Meeting With Generals

Over nearly two hours in the situation room, according to the officials, Trump complained about NATO allies, inquired about the United States getting a piece of Afghan’s mineral wealth and repeatedly said the top U.S. general there should be fired.

Why are we even over there?

Mattis got NATO to commit more troops. They have been waiting for Trump to approve the new strategy before they deploy. Same goes with General Nicholson. he has requested more troops and his request has yet to answer. The funny thing is Nicholson might lose his job because he doesn't have the resources to beat back or hold off the Taliban at the moment.

No, but he did that to a little girl of nine. Hence the practice of "thighing". And he preferred fondling the young virgins.

This is a good argument against the timelessness of mohammed's words, because noone accepts this now. It was common practice at the time, though.

They still do it. Search it out. Fatwas have been written against it. But it's in the Quran, so fundamentalists accept it and perform it.

This basically supports what is reported in the NBC article.

National security adviser H.R. McMaster supports Defense Secretary Jim Mattis' push for more troops; Steve Bannon thinks Americans won't support that and wants a slow drawdown. Bannon allies think they're winning.

In June, Trump gave Mattis authority to determine troop levels, but lately the White House has re-asserted itself.

"Trump ... has been considering ... appointing Mike Pompeo, the C.I.A. director, to take over as national security adviser, while sending General McMaster to command forces in Afghanistan. Such a move could earn General McMaster a fourth star."

"Trump repeatedly suggested that Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford replace Gen. John Nicholson, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, because he is not winning the war, the officials said. Trump has not met Nicholson, and the Pentagon has been considering extending his time in Afghanistan."

I thought for sure the MOAB would do the trick. Clearly they have no strategy for Afghanistan.

Do you think Pompeo would be interested?

Just pointing your nose in the direction of "objectivity."

Trump is the President now. It's his scorecard. Is he going to work with NATO or Go Rambo? The failed policies of the past have no bearing on his. Can't call it "objectivity" when you subject it to the past.

"During the July 19 meeting, Trump repeatedly suggested that Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford replace Gen. He also startled the room with a story that seemed to compare their advice to that of a paid consultant who cost a tony New York restaurateur profits by offering bad advice."

VN has all sorts of useless ways of defending Trump. They voted for him because he's different but then they point out he's the same whenever it's convenient.

Yes, you certainly can. What's past is prologue and there is a distinct precedent set by any other nation that goes into Afghanistan.

They just don't win.

Now, you can be as partisan as you want to be with the whole idea Trump has no idea what he's doing. But the simple fact is, each Administration prior to this has punted on Afghanistan as well. And to deny that means you really aren't even being objective at all.

Well, I see someone woke up and took a double dose of their stupid pill.
