At 77 years old plus a few months, I have been a die-hard Tennessee fan all my life. Never picked my team to lose, no matter who we were playing.
I was hoarse, but in the stands screaming as loud as I could in Tempe, Az as we defeated Fla. St. for the National Championship. I have continued to be outspoken for my Vols. So naturally, I get upset seeing comments from what has to be the younger bunch, telling me and others that we should not be critical, and not expect more out of our team and coaches.
Winning takes a lot more than losing. Winners have to want it more. Losers just take whatever happens.
I guess I could try to become like Vanderbilt fans, and others, who don't get upset with losses and lack of effort. It would make my life much easier, but I just cannot give in to giving up. I expect Tennessee to be the best. No excuse is good enough for us not to be.
We recruit top athletes, but then allow them to sit on the bench while others are playing who have proven over and over again that they do not deserve to be on the field instead of someone else who may be better.
If this makes me a bad fan, so be it, but I will not stop expecting our coaches to be able to evaluate talent, and then coach it up.
Right now, we are not getting it done fast enough. There has been a lot of improvement, but to continue putting a QB on the field who cannot get us to where we should be, is a reflection upon our coaches, and it is unfair to the members of our team who have SEC ability, and are willing to give the effort to make Tennessee the best.
Go Vols!
