Holliday have a shot at qb?

My point exactly. Yes Maurer got the biggest opportunity BUT Pruitt was waiting for him to mess up bad enough to justify going back to JG all along and it was obvious.
I really don’t think there’s any love affair with JG. I imagine you will see some changes this year...last year it was obvious that Maurer was a schoolboy among men. Hopefully he’s a little bigger and more durable now...

You’re either in denial or naive on that if you can’t see it at this point.

Coach & coaching philosophies aside, there is no way a true freshman that has spent all of the LIMITED practice time learning a new position can be prepared in a week to play quarterback. What you saw Lynn Bowden do as an established SEC playmaker in his 3rd year of college football was nothing short of miraculous. We want and need a different option at QB, but Holliday this week isnt it.

Ha I’m neither but we’ll see how it plays out. I’ve been watching the Vols since 1977 so I have a pretty good perspective

So do you think he sticks with Maurer last year if he turns the ball over 7 times in 6 quarters?

My take is this: I think that JG is not very good. I think that Shrout is also not very good. I think Maurer has potential but last year he was an undersized freshman with a wreckless injury streak. I think it’s hard not to play the 22 year old that seems to do well in practice and puts in the work. I think if JG was the freshman and Maurer was the RS Junior last year yes he would have stuck with him despite the picks I think right now it a coaches nightmare at QB but I think after this year that changes....

This program has had more than its fair share of overhyped gadget players over the years.

James Banks, Nukeese Richardson, Eric Locke, etc etc etc etc

Id settle for them finding a serviceable TE that can actually catch and getting these highly ranked O linemen to move their feet quicker so they can be in better blocking position than trying to add to a struggling offense.

And oh yeah...bury Guarantano at the end of the bench.

Ask yourself if you think Pruitt would’ve stayed with Maurer if he’d turned the ball over 7 times in 6 quarters and then respond accordingly. NO qb has had a “fair” shot. Simple as that.
Maurer turned it over once for every seven completions. Not too good.

Fair enough. Even Jauan last year, given his hs tape, competitiveness, and being a 5 year player is light years more realistic than trotting out a true frosh moved to receiver after one practice for the Alabama game.

Its true. James Banks showed great promise as a freshman, unfortunate how it played out. Pig Howard and pretty soon, Velus Jones can be added to the list.

I can't believe HB, the highest rated QB on our team, has been essentially ignored by our head coach for an entire month of football. Lack of QB is our biggest issue on the field and we have been doing almost nothing to remedy the problem. Bright red flag for me
I wouldnt say he was ignored. He wasnt available for spring bc we didnt have one. He was in quarantine for fall. And then they held a 48 snap scrimmage and gave him every single snap. I think Pruitt knew that it was gonna take time to develop Bailey and knew he wouldn't be able to start him so he went with JG and Shrout since Maurer has been hurt. I dont think Bailey was ignored at all.
