It’s always been like this. The money didn’t change anything. Danny white just isn’t trying to hide it with “talent fees” and the like but understand it’s always been like this.

How many of you guys remember that complaint back in the mid 2000’s? Long before NIL and portal, a lot of us thought they didn’t give their all for Tennessee. The consensus was that most of the players were not in state and if we recruited more instate players they would play harder and we would win more.

I’ve always felt sports were supposed to be about representing your home and community. Funny how the money worshipers seem to blur those lines until they no longer exist.

There are a couple of factors that are not about money or specific circumstance.

1. The kids are a product of their enviornment. When I was coaching youth teams it was clear as day there were some hard nosed kids that loved to compete. There were a lot more that folded when it got tough. The majority of my focus was teaching them how to handle adversity and never quit despite the score. Admittedly I had marginal success. There are some generational factors at play that the coaches are having to deal with.

2. It appears that CJH coaches with a "take care of business" mentality. It isn't about hyping guys up but stay even through the ups and downs. I think of how Florida came out and quickly faded and got flat. It's a technique and philosophy vs. a coaching or player shortfall. I like it but there are times and moments you have to get players hyped; that is up to postiion and coordinators in my mind.

I remember that, but many of our greatest VFLs have been from out of state. Sort of correlates to the fact that most of our best players have been from out of state

Use to be a lot more heart and loyalty in the players. It has changed so much it hardly resembles itself.
I am not one to pry into the hearts of people I do not know, because assuming another person’s intent is rarely in good taste. Still, it is fair to question why anyone would hold deep loyalty and passion for a system that prevented them from caring for themselves and those around them, despite their God given talent. For nearly a century, the NCAA refused to allow athletes to earn money from their own name, image, and identity. That reality should not be ignored.

Because of that, the idea of “true love” from college football programs has always been complicated. When backroom deals were used to pay players, as our beloved Vols did no more or less than anyone else, athletes were not staying out of loyalty alone. They were also staying out of fear of being caught. That does not invalidate their love for the game, which is as strong as it has ever been. Remember that.

Love for a school is something that develops over time, shaped by memories, relationships, and experiences. That part has not changed. As fans, we still have the ability to help create those experiences for today’s players. So do not be disheartened over something that, if we are being honest, was never fully real to begin with.

I would also like to add if "heart" is what you feel like we are losing and want to point blame remember per the NCAA in 2013:

Rules like this are what put college football in the situation we are in today.

The vast majority of players are playing hard and too win. Please share all the players and teams that you see not trying to win. It gets tiring folks complaining about the money and the so called lack of effort. If you don’t like it move on to something else, no reason to keep coming on here by redundant about it. Heupel is not going to play anyone not giving effort or they quit giving it like Boo. But for every 1 like that they are many many more ready to go give their all. Sometimes folks just like to hear themselves complain I guess. GBO

I have almost entirely stopped watching any professional sports at all. I'm guessing that will be the case with collegiate as well pretty soon.

"cut you heart and show it to you"

boosters/donors pooling money to pay athletes, that’s NIL collectives and that is the issue that will put it to bed or kill it.

Giving money to NIL was ok but bad on its own merit. But as usual it grew to who has the MOSTUS MONEY will get the players. And just like the NFL, our new NFL Minor League will have a few schools always at the top, that is coached up, players stay healthy, schedule and a few other bumps will win the NCS> but each year will be from a few. A few with the Jack and will spend it. ...
If the collectives are not halted, teams like USC (tons of potential $$) and Oregon come to mind of getting up to the top. Lenning and the Oregon Program is owned by Knight. He will spend all he can and no limit on the collective, scarry!!

Damn! I opened this thread hoping it was about the band. I see others have beat he to the punch.

One of the great concerts I often forget I went to was Heart's 1982 show with John Cougar opening.
John cougar or John cougar Melloncamp? He shortened his name but I can’t remember when. I like me some Heart tho!!

At our current position on the time train, many things bare no resemblance to what they once were..

Wealthy boosters tried to ruin the game and NIL collectives have finished it off. Let’s not forget a shout out to the greedy, corrupt and hypocritical NCAA and all major conference university leadership for allowing and even encouraging the cancer of big money to metastisize

Nothing matters these days but money. It's all that matters in politics(spending 30-100 million for a senate seat).Sports nil, coaches money, cost of tickets.etc.Religion(send your money to me to be saved). In the 90's a lady who worked at Disneyworld as a maid and lived in a trailer hit the lottery for around 7 million. The next week,Jimmy Baker went to her and said for around 1 million dollar donation, she could have a home at his religious park and he would get her into heaven.Money is all that matters these days!
