HBO's "Game of Thrones"

Shireen's death bothered me
immeasurably more than the Sansa scene from a few weeks back.

Regarding the Dorne scenes, does sending apparently his only heir to King's Landing mean that Doran's "fire and blood" reveal has been dropped? Because if so, what the hell was the point of that plotline?

I understand everyone's emotional response to the burning. What I don't understand is the criticism on the build-up of that scene. It shouldn't have come as a surprise and I believe it was well executed.

The foreshadowing was heavy. The only problem is that those scenes made me less likely to believe Stannis would go this far. This is a guy who held Storm's End for a year eating rats during Robert's Rebellion, but now he burns his only heir? In the book his men are eating horses and each other but he is still staying put. It's just another difference in the adaptation, I guess.

Huge book spoiler
They're also heavily foreshadowing that the kid is going to be one of the conspirators who stabs Jon next episode. I don't necessarily like it, but at least he has a reason that's been building up over time.

I love the brutal nature of Game of Thrones. Shireen's death was telegraphed from a mile away, but sensible viewers held out hope because A) it seemed too obvious and B) surely they weren't going to kill a child in such a brutal manner. On-screen, no less.

Nope.

What the series (starting with Martin, of course) has done masterfully is make nearly everyone vulnerable at any time, which creates a tension and even a feeling of dread that is impossible to replicate when other shows rely so heavily on their main characters.

Granted, some characters undeniably have plot armor, either permanent or temporary, and it's hard to see the big 4 in Daenarys, Tyrion, Jon Snow, or Arya going down any time soon, but I wouldn't be shocked if one of those 4 bites the dust sometime next season to up the ante yet again.

Bran should make it the big 5.

Well in the book Mel and his daughter are at castle black. The story is very different. Who knows of the end game is the same though.

So what happens with Arya next week? Will this be the start of her crossing names off her list by taking out Meryn Trant? Does she assume the role of a young prostitute to get close to him and then take him out "mid-stroke" thus avenging her dance master (and all the attacks on women we've had this year)?

They didn't even have enough time to do justice to several of the major storylines this season. I think leaving Bran out was a sound decision. Doesn't change the fact that he will probably be the most powerful being in the universe by the end of the story.

We may have seen Bran last night...

Careful what you wish for. Let's just say, so far, there has been one or two HUGE events the show has strayed from the books, things I prefer so far personally but can't imagine them being retconned entirely.

A couple thoughts:

1. For all those complaining that the first couple episodes were dull should STFU after the last two.

2. Glad to see that Lionel Richey looking MFr get it.

3. LOL at the first fight in the pit and the debate about little guys vs big guys. I actually did LOL.

4. A bunch people that jumped on Team Stannis early in the season when he told of his devotion to his daughter now are probably off Team Stannis.

5. Things in Dorne continue to be the most implausible part of this season. It's like Entourage where everything works out

6. Jorah touched Dany - won't that transfer the Greyscale? Hmmmm.

Regarding 6, I think she would have had to touch the infected region on Jorah's wrist. He wouldn't risk it otherwise (or would have worn gloves like a certain book character).

1. Right on.
2. Really? Now that it seems he was innocent of the Harpy stuff, I actually feel really bad for the guy.
3. That was great lol
4. Count me as one of them
5. Yep.
6. Unless he touched her with the part of his wrist that was infected, I think she's alright. Pretty sure Jorah had it covered up to begin with.

Dorne has been the biggest waste of time this season. I would rather have watched Jaime spar with Bronn for 10 episodes and learn how to fight with one hand. I could not care any less about Myrcella. Her being played by a terrible actress doesn't help things, either.

regardless of what happened last night, Stannis continues to be my favorite character.

Still the best candidate for the Iron Throne. But as a huge Stannis fan, last night sucked. Mel and Davos are pretty much the devil and the angel on his shoulders and he chose the devil for good.

They could have followed the book plot and would actually have been cohesive. Both plots to abduct Myrcella (in broad daylight!) were moronic, and the Sand Snakes are utterly pointless. Doran was the only saving grace but he's had like 4 minutes of screen time.

Every story is a waste of time until it interacts with one of the main storylines.

I haven't minded it too much, I think this is eventuality going to tie in with Super-Mountain.

I will say Oberyn's lover chick annoys the piss out of me. The man willingly entered a trial-by-combat. It was a fair fight, he wasn't murdered. Go cry somewhere else.
