HBO's "Game of Thrones"

This is how I predicted the episode for her would end. but unfortunately not as big as it could've been.

Yeah, that was an awful sequence. I'm legitimately upset by it, also feel that it's not going to help Stannis meet his goals

I'm rooting for the Boltons to ***** him up next week. I hate D&D so much for that. I have to root for the Boltons because of this crap.

What the ****? The ending was incredible, but the burning of Shireen was the most awful thing this show has had. Completely and utterly unforgivable

I never felt like the writers understood the Stannis character. They play this ominous music when he shows up (even in his most triumphant moment) and pretend that he's obsessed with power. Book Stannis is doing it for duty, because he truly feels he has the best claim. He refuses to burn even his own common soldiers and is an atheist. Show Stannis apparently is fine with burning his only heir for the sake of power and some red snatch. I would have understood if Mel and Selyse did it behind his back (because Mel couldn't care less about anything beyond Azor Ahai and Selyse is Selyse), but this was just depressing.

GRRM told D&D to do this. This was said in the inside the episode.

I don't have any doubt she'll be burned in the next book - just think there's flimsy justification for it happening this way. If GRRM has it happen in the same way I'll call him out as well.

The knight hesitated. “Your Grace, if you are dead — ”
“ — you will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt.”
Ser Justin put one hand on his sword hilt. “On my honor as a knight, you have my word.“

The Winds of Winter Sample Chapter

I find that hard to believe

D&D said that GRRM was telling them about it. I didn't make that up.

I agree, I didn't like it at all.

I believe you. I don't believe them. At least I can't see anyway Stannis doing it. Mel and Selyse sure not Stannis.

Ah, I gotcha.

I haven't read the books, so I never understood the infatuation. I know he's quite a bit different, though.

Just had a thought. How does Davos react to this? He stuck by Stannis after Renly. I can't imagine Davos staying with Stannis after this.

I have no idea where Davos' arc goes after this. In the book he
goes after Rickon, of course, but who will tell him about Rickon in the show? Show Jon has apparently forgotten that Sam told him his younger brothers are alive. Maybe it will be Sam (especially if he doesn't get back to Castle Black next episode).

As much as it was foreshadowed, I still had faith Stannis would change his mind last second and stop the Shireen burning. Alas, as my fave Ramsay has stated, ""If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention."

**** Stannis with a capital F.

that said, I actually thought the sequence was done phenomenally. A total emotional heart wrenching, just one of the things I love about this show. Definitely don't agree with the comments saying it was a terrible idea/decision by Weiss and DB. Episode was great, though I still liked last weeks better. I can't believe next week is the end of the season.

I love the brutal nature of Game of Thrones. Shireen's death was telegraphed from a mile away, but sensible viewers held out hope because A) it seemed too obvious and B) surely they weren't going to kill a child in such a brutal manner. On-screen, no less.

Nope.

What the series (starting with Martin, of course) has done masterfully is make nearly everyone vulnerable at any time, which creates a tension and even a feeling of dread that is impossible to replicate when other shows rely so heavily on their main characters.

Granted, some characters undeniably have plot armor, either permanent or temporary, and it's hard to see the big 4 in Daenarys, Tyrion, Jon Snow, or Arya going down any time soon, but I wouldn't be shocked if one of those 4 bites the dust sometime next season to up the ante yet again.
