Harrison Bailey with minimum snaps

Why hasn our top QB(Harrison Bailey) just take his first practice snaps until last Sunday at a scrimmage. Offers from bama, auburn, florida, florida state, Georgia. Lsu,miami, michigan,Ohio state( it was between Ohio State and TN at the end), oklahoma, and few more others. Pruitt said that about harrison bailey that he hasn't taken any practice snaps until last Sunday. He blamed it on Covid. Basically we didn't have time to waste on him cuz of no spring practice and such. What top QB will want to come here after hearing that? None!!!!

there is a reason the Vols haven’t had a good QB in the last 18 years

Well, I did type “If” Pruitt said that. Regardless, it’s not debatable that JG is not a very good QB, makes freshmen and sophomore mistakes as a 5th year senior (nearly 4 year starter). And it’s not debatable that if the redshirt Sophomore or JR aren’t ready that it fall on Pruitt and his QB coach. Putting all your eggs into one basket is not very smart.

When Bama Gump is running the team it's easy to see why there are QB issues and team issues #no discpline

Bailey - one of the best coming out of high school---- (don't think anyone questions this)

SO - we see 1st year QBs starting for other teams every year and doing well. (not all but quite a few) We on the other hand have a QB who is thought to be a smart guy who can't seem to execute any play (or it's options sent in) nor do the receivers know where to go or their options, the O-line always seem to have one or two guys get mixed up with the options presented by the call. You call this indecision, confusion and lack of communication. Now, what causes these problems? Are our guys stupid, mentally slow,,, I don't think so.(at least no more than than any other team's players)
We keep hearing our QB's are not ready, surely their ability to play the position was not thought to be a total physical work in progress type recruitment. Here I think is where the problem lies!!
From time to time we hear color guys on TV commitment on Chaney's system being a complicated system. Seems so... So much so that the whole offensive team has trouble with it. Looking back at his time with GA. I think I have the impression they had trouble with it from time to time. Not saying it is not a good system, I wouldn't have any idea. However, I just wonder when I watch us being so lost looking, that this is not a great part of the problem. I would like to see us just simplify the offense for awhile. When we run "here I come" plays or pass simple pass patterns, like go long or cut across the middle type patterns we seem to do pretty well.

Players have looked lost for years. It’s not Chaney. Chaney had one of the most prolific offenses ever at TN with Tyler Bray under center and let’s all be honest, McBray isn’t getting a call from Mensa anytime soon. Do you remember the LSU game where Dooley snatched defeat from the jaws of victory because they couldn’t count to 12? When Butch gave away atheists game to FL because he couldn’t move the ball 2 inches on 4 tries? I think it’s the HC because we keep making terrible hiring decisions. Put Butch, Dooley and Pruitt in a bag and shake them up and it’s all the same. They just have different weaknesses.

Lol...not atheists. The game to FL. But my spellcheck did change Dooley to Fooley and I was charitable and changed it.

Ok guys. I am NOT a coach...just a regular guy who played football thru HS. I played safety though...so I have a pretty good understanding of what goes on in the back half of a defense. We played lots of Cover2...which is what CJP runs a variant of nearly all the time....whether in "man," or zone.

Everyone keeps posting " we have WAY too many passes down the middle."

Yes. We do. Kinda

EVERY defense has weaknesses. Holes in the coverage that can be exploited. EVERY DEFENSE. There is no perfect defense without holes. Period.

CJP Usually plays a cover 2, with 2 high safeties. He has several different variations, and many different blitz packages that nearly ALL come from the same " 2 high" look.

Opposing offensive coaches know this. They know that we are good on short passes, and post/curl/out routes at the sidelines. 2 high safeties are great at taking those away. By design. These other coaches know how to send their WR deep on the corners, then drag a WR across the middle, or send a TE up the middle matched up on a slower or shorter LB
....they will send their slot WR on slant routes...in the middle...it is the weakest spot in our defense. CJP knows this. It is a calculated risk.

Deep routes, and drag routes, even TE routes after faking a block, all take time to develop
3 or 4 seconds. The key is to get pressure on the QB before that happens. Sometimes we do...sometimes we cannot....and we get hit for 20 yard plus passes down the middle. We need consistent pressure, and CJP does what he can to get it. He blitzes LB, safeties, and even Corners....but a blitz leaves a HOLE in your coverage. A good QB will make you pay for that quickly if he isn't already laying on his back....

TL, Dr...

Every defense has holes and weaknesses. Our 2 high safety cover 2 concepts leave a "hole" in the middle after 3 or 4 seconds. It is by design...we need pressure on the QB just as much as we need good play by the DBs. Bryce is an NFL corner, Shamburger and McCullough can play their way into the NFL as well. We have talent back there.

Edit: there are links in this forum to the defense clinic that CJP taught for other coaches last summer. You can watch for am hour as he explains his packages. It is very interesting if you understand it....once I watched those...I understood that CJP is a great defensive coach. One of the best in the country. He knows it front to back, on a level that most wouldn't believe.

I didn't want to start a thread for this, but I saw an article on Knox News Sentinel about a film study of HB's drive to see how he fared. I'm not going to subscribe to read it, but does anyone here have a subscription and could give a synopsis?

Who said he was UT's "top QB"? That's something you earn... not something recruiting websites endow you with.

He apparently got very little practice due to Covid and then they had to get the guys who had taken more snaps ready to play within the time limitations for practice.

I'm ready to see him and Maurer get their chance to battle it out to see who is "the guy" going forward. You have a much better chance of keeping Salter on board if a guy like Maurer has success than if a pure pro style guy like HB becomes a 4 year starter.

There is a LOT more to worry about right now than the next "top QB' recruit.... starting with the decision to stick with JG in spite of 3 years of proof that he isn't "the guy". That's more of a reason for QB's to question a UT offer than Bailey not being thrown on the field with no practice.
We have watched JG play on game day. It is safe to say every other QB on the roster, to include H.B., has earned UT "top QB" by default.

No

General surgery residency is 5 years. Internship is just colloquial term for a PGY1 inany specialty
Uhh No general surgeons can remain in residency 5yrs but surgery internships for specialty fields are longer. Some residency programs last 1 to 3 years in addition to the initial 5yrs of general surgery training
