With so much uproar pertaining to the new AD hire and Butch's lack luster coaching the last two-three years, how do you, VN experts, think the program would be right now?
I think Hammy would still be here.
I think the football program would be much, much better off! Would have beaten Bama at least once in the past seven years. But, we would have still lost a game or two each year we should have won.
Would have had more talent on the roster. (More attrition also)
After his initial push to get Tennessee on the map by way of attention, there would be no more secondary violations. (Hamilton stated that CLK told him he was going to do things to get the UT name back out there)
There would be no shortage of incidents or stories to talk about.
And finally, one of you great posters would probably have a stepson named Knox right now!
We would be on probation and facing sanctions. Simple as that.
Then why isn't Bama on probation and facing sanctions? I don't buy that even though some do.
I too think the program would have been better off than today from a W-L perspective, but I also think CBJ is a better person/personal-mentor than Kiffin.
Kiffin is a better prep-coach, player-developer, game-day coach and assistant coach recruiter.
They may be equal from a talent-recruitment perspective considering how many of Kiffin's guys fell through the cracks, got kicked out of school or were hauled off to prison.
You're probably right. People tend to forget how wild things were during Kiffin's time in Knoxville and not wild in a good way.Actually, we would be looking at what Ole Miss is going through, and envying them. What hasn't been mentioned yet is the job opportunities the team would have created just on the strip. A few more incidents like the armed robbery at the pilot, and Cumberland Avenue might have garnered federal funding to maintain a visible 24 hour police presence. Tennessee could have been the first college football team with a parole officer on it's staff.
It never ceases to amaze me at how short some people's memories are. Had we found a descent coach after he bolted Kiffin would be Dooley right now. He would be a joke and a bad memory to every UT fan.Yep. There is so much revisionist history surrounding Kiffin's time in Knoxville that it is hard to have a conversation about it at times.
Seriously, he was OC and NOT in control at Alabama! Nick would have fired him if he had a dirty finger nail! This is all part of his plan, I'm calling it now, Kiffin will have a winning season, beat at P5 team badly THEN COACH TOOTH GETS FIRED, and Kiffin is the NEW COACH of the Gators! 2120, Florida won't have a football program!
