Gus Malzahn

Yes on Malzahn. I think he would be the best coach in the SEC East next season. I learned my lesson on "retreads" when Rick Barnes got hired here. He's has been an awesome coach for UT and doing it the right way. I think he got tired at Texas and needed a change. If Malzahn wants to coach next season, I would love for him to be here. It would be our best hire since Johnny Majors.

As a fallback, perhaps, if no one else pans out. But no insane contract like the one he just made 21 mil on.

i think that contract has given him an inflated sense of self worth. He wont coach for much less until some time passes by and the itch gets him.

Someone used to making those kind of Benjamins would be a fool to come to Tennessee and face the same level of pressure for a tiny fraction of the pay, especially when he can make 20 mil just sipping margaritas on a beach for the next few years

No. He's a middling SEC coach. Admittedly that might be an upgrade... but not what I am personally hoping for.

Sounds a lot like Chaney.
I'd be more comfortable with that comment if he had not been handcuffed by Pruitt... and Smart also. Both are defensive coaches still trying to win with a defense/ball control formula that even Saban abandoned.

I would love to say yes, but I don't think he is a take. He is Rich Rod 2.0. He is a one trick pony and everyone has adjusted to him. He has not changed and will be mediocre at best.

Don’t try to twist what I said like a child.
Well I was trying to get on your level. You said you didn’t want to start over to get to an OK team. That leads one to believe you are fine with the status quo which is a horrible team. Your words, not mine...

He hit his ceiling at Auburn. I realize that's much better than where we've been the past 10+ years but it ain't where we're looking to be. Everyone has long figured him out and he was being stubborn about it. Doesn't study other offensive gurus and unable to adapt. Likely would never get another victory against Saban. Pass....

I would take him all day over Pruitt. Gus’s an elite coach with an athlete that is a threat to run at Qb. He’s slightly above average without that threat though. He tried too hard to convince people his offense is just as effective with a traditional style qb. I think it was to get a shot in the NFL. Still better than Pruitt. Imagine what he could have done with Dobbs, and Kamara in his offense. I wonder if Mack Brown would consider coming here? I think he’s very underrated.

Mac said he wanted the job on both of our previous hires. The masses said no way in hell and they all look pretty stupid now.

If we hire Malzahn today you can make the case he’s the best coach in the SEC East. It’s to me an absolute no brainer.

Gus won a Natty at Auburn after Auburn friends of the program 'donated' a load of money to Newton's fathers church. Since then he has been competitive but a step behind. I am not sold on him now that Kiffin and Leach are in the conference. Their offenses, along with Florida and Bama's are the one's to imulate. The plug and play. Big Oline, talented receivers, QB who doesn't fold under pressure. UT has had the makings except for the QB.
Chizik was HC when AU won the 2010 National Championship . Gus was the OC .
