Gun control debate (merged)

My minors, no. Your minors, that's up to you.

I was driving, carried a gun in my truck (hunting season mostly) when I was a minor all with my parents consent. I drank and tried cigarettes as a minor without consent of course. I didn't need the .gov telling me what I could let my kids do or not do to raise them.

Currently minors cannot purchase a firearm. You OK with that or would you like to see that changed?

There's no parental consent (for carrying) required as I understand it in Missouri

I would like to see that changed. There wasn't kids shooting up schools when minors could purchase firearms legally as late as the 1980's. When are you going to realize the problem isn't access to guns, the problem is with the people. Why have people become so murderous, that's the problem we need to find an answer to and fix.

Sounds like we need better parents and not more laws people will ignore.

Kids don't need parents at all to carry in Missouri. They're not part of the equation

If a kid can't buy a firearm, he sure shouldn't be allowed to carry one

OK, we come at this from completely different points of view. I think your ideas are dangerous and would lead to chaos. We just disagree

Why do you ignore the fact that there wasn't chaos when minors could buy firearms and actually take them to school? There wasn't chaos when you could order a gun through the mail with absolutely no record, BGC or ID.

When were minors able to legally buy firearms?

When were minors able to legally buy firearms?

Before the GCA of 1968 guns could be brought through mail order catalogs and delivered directly to the purchaser without any kind of background check. There was nothing legally keeping an underage person from buying a gun.

And mass shootings were extremely rare back then. Go figure.

Different era

But why do we have so many dangerous people now compared to 40 years ago? What has changed and why aren't you concentrating on that instead of more restrictions?
A couple of biggies...........
1) We have added 106 million people since 1980 - a 47% increase in population, mostly urban.
2) Something called the digital world.

And I'm concentrating on both of those, as well as other issues that are intertwined, like the insanity of the US gun culture.

The ignorant ones especially.
