Gun control debate (merged)

There was never a gun in my house growing up nor in my wife's house. Never really knew anyone with a gun(s). Never had any friends who were into hunting. Not a big thing in east Nashville.
I did take trap and skeet shooting in college..........tops in my class. I'm an excellent aim. I'm the ax throwing champ among the group.

I remember you said you had been skeet shooting . That’s pretty fun but like anything can get expensive with the amount of shells you go through . Did you also do the one that runs across the ground like a rabbit ? That’s probably my favorite one .

To the first part I would imagine that depends on your state , here in Virginia it’s an open carry state so what the detective does in his off time would be up to him , he would be no different than anyone else . The second I think would also be what you are use to , some people see a firearm and immediately think negative as you pointed out . I have been around them all my life being around city, county and state cops with family and very close friends in all three and the fact that I grew up around guns , hunting , target shooting , collecting makes me think the other way . In my mind if I see a holstered firearm I assume the person wearing it is a firearm safety conscious person or he wouldn’t have it holstered . I will say that if I see one tucked into a waistline or hanging out of a jacket pocket I will assume negative things about that person like you do . I’ve seen those and they make me nervous not gonna lie .

Fair enough. As I say, its the equivalent to me of carrying a sign that says "I dare you," or "I'm not afraid to stick my nose where it doesn't belong."

To me those are the ones I described last that make me nervous . I’m probably the least nervous person you’ve ever spoke to , I don’t get rattled or shook so when I say those people that just shove a pistol in there waistband or coat pocket make me nervous it’s saying something . Lol

No, but it does sound fun. I loved skeet shooting.

I am sure he does. God, I hope so!

(BTW, I cannot think of any law enforcement agency that would allow its members to open carry without uniform, badge, or other obvious insignia of their law enforcement status.)

But on to the bigger picture. What kind of person open carries for a reason other than to make some sort of public statement?
Just because they are paranoid doesnt mean someone isnt out to get them.

To me you are making a first amendment argument. People are free to wear what they want, even if they support something I dont like. Happens all the time.

I think you would have issue if some Republican asked a person wearing gang parafanalia to leave. Or made some assumption based on their looks, a bunch of your comments on Trump comes to mind.

A bumper sticker or a MAGA hat don't have quite the same lethality as Glock.

was he brandishing it, or wearing it? the glock itself is no more dangerous than the bumper sticker or maga hat. Guy has to pull the gun to be lethal, guy could also stuff his maga hat down your throat. Not sure how the bumper sticker works but I am sure John Wick could find a way.

you don't know if the gun is real, loaded, or has some fancy biometric trigger lock, rendering it almost unusable. you are just straight fear mongering something you don't understand to fit your twisted agenda.

I can't figure out if I am too country (grew up in the suburbs) or spent too long in Atlanta, 7ish years, where seeing someone with a gun doesn't freak me out. and genuinely does not make me change my opinion of the matter one bit.

I also don't understand how you can be comfortable with cops walking around with weapons but not joe shmo public. I am sure there are cases of open carry going wrong, but I can't conjure too many examples off the top of my head. But I am sure I can find a dozen cases of cop gone wrong in this last week alone.

I have seen some cops shooting at the range and let’s just say it’s not surprising they can dump a mag and not hit anything.

Everyone around them seems oblivious to what is going on.

This is the what makes so many people good victims . Most people just are too busy to be bothered with being aware of their surroundings and ready to take action (fight or flight ) when they need to .

A liberal Administration would never infringe on individual rights or privacy!
Or allow anyone to move into a flood prone area for their own good! Ex Presidents can inspect said "at risk" properties for safety during the summer months for the publics safety.
