Gun control debate (merged)

There’s a reason I said nobody I know would listen to a philosophy professor . This is a man that has spent his whole life becoming overeducated in a field where he sits around and ponders why the world around him is like it is and then ignores inalienable rights , in order to fix a problem based on his subjective opinions . This is where I stopped reading ..

Too effin' rich. You dismiss philosophy because of ... "inalienable rights."

Do you know where the concept of inalienable rights comes from? You really should read more philosophy.

I know an idiot philosophy professor that you want me to discuss , that is saying in his first paragraph that we should do away with private gun ownership .. that’s exactly why I don’t listen to philosophy professors . You understand that I am PRO 2a right ? I believe as Thomas Jefferson wrote that we have rights and that those rights , one of which is to own a firearm , does not come from the government , if it did we wouldn’t still be talking about it today . The government would have revoked it by now . I don’t need a degree to understand that , or to be told by someone with a degree what he thinks it means .

So you think there's no deeper explanation for your purported right to have a gun beyond it's a right you have and it doesn't come from government. Do you really think it's fundamental or do you think a more fundamental right explains it?

Really, it's the same tired crap talking points everytime. "But X can be used to kill too!!!" "Guns don't kill, people do." "Without guns were not free." Simply fact is we're the only developed country with this problem and we have this problem because we give guns out like candy on Halloween.

When I first joined I tried to have serious debate on this and other topics. Then I recognized most on here are just knuckledraggers so I became a sh**poster.
Where can I get my free Halloween gun?

This is a very good jumping off point for you to research our FF’s writings and read what they themselves said they meant when writing the constitution. Don’t take my word or anyone else’s word for it , read their writings and explanations for yourself .

If you wanna engage in argument, I'm more than happy to do that. Tell me what you think of these points by McMahan.

Why Gun 'Control' Is Not Enough

Okay, I forced myself to read through half of it, although I completely disagreed with the premises that were postulated from the outset. Finally stopped because it was a waste of further time spent on it. I can summarize what I read:

'I don't like guns. Therefore all arguments contrary to my opinion are logically false.'

He did the same thing everyone on here does: call the other side stupid. But the gun owners do know their subject and the statistics supporting their positions far better than the leftists wanting to take away guns.

For the record: I support the 2A because it is the ultimate check on government. A liberal friend of mine sent me what, on the surface, was an anti-2A meme called the 2A Scorecard. On one side it said Tyrannical Goverments and rulers deposed and the other was children/etc killed by gun violence and the respective score was zero to lots and lots of marks.

But it illustrates the 2A has been very effective. Only a few times have the people stood up in arms to the national government (and at least once to a county government. See:Battle of Athens, McMinn County, TN, 1946). Those times have reminded government their power to rule is granted by the people. And an armed people do have the wherewithal to remind government of that fact.
