Gun control debate (merged)

The system needs to be more restrictive on who can buy a gun. If you had a mental evaluation because you threatened to shoot up a school you should not legally be able to purchase a firearm a year later.

Even if you had treatment and Dr signed off that you're all good?

The problem is two fold. First, the restrictions that do exist are replete with loopholes. They are window dressing, not intended to actually work. Second, there is no way to track who has stolen guns. This one wasn't but we do see that problem all the time.

We need solid, hard to evade, restrictions and we need to hold people accountable when their guns get stolen due to carelessness on their part.

Let me get this straight, not only does the actual victim of the crime lose their property but you are saying they need to be worried about a fine/ jail time and or losing their constitutional rights because they were a victim of a crime ? You are actually recommending this ?

True. And the brainwashing he consumed probably made him more depressed.
I'm sure there is a correlation between the degree to which a person allows themselves to be brainwashed and depression.

I wonder if the closing of schools due to covid, the isolation that came with that and the fact many Drs wouldn't take patients had anything to do with this?

Again .. I’ve never seen it and I’ve been all over this country . I must be hanging out in the wrong hoods . There’s not even security guards here in Norfolk at the grocery stores . Lol

Went into a WalMart in Antioch a couple weeks ago, they had armed security. Rough area though.

Nope. But they did stop Timmy.
And there are many rational and reasonable changes to the laws that could have greatly increased the chances of them working in this case.

So by your logic, since most gun crime is committed by African Americans, we should make a law prohibiting Africa Americans from owning firearms? I mean if we save one life it justifies it.

Whats the definition of carelessness?

And what do you suggest?
Any kid who makes a threat is not allowed to purchase a gun until they are 21.

Outlaw any magazine that holds more than 8 (just made that number up) rounds. (thinking this one might trigger some folks)

So you want to end the practice of sealed criminal and medical records for juveniles?

This is just dumb. As we just saw this law would do absolutely nothing.

For the average person, which one would be easiest? Read about, practice at, experiment with, and then successfully execute making a home made bomb… or buy a gun and some ammo and start shooting people?
Has any of the Nut jobs that have done this sort of thing said they used a gun because it was easier?

It can remain sealed. They are just locked out from being able to purchase a gun until they are 21.
He purchased the magazines from a state where they were legal. If they were not legal in any state, he would have had substantially more difficulty.

So really he didn’t modify it so much as returned it to factory condition
What this really illustrates is the absolute stupidity these legislative morons get twisted up in and how little they are founded in firearms knowledge and common sense. I’d guess these earth shattering modifications took all of 5 minutes to implement.

What's the point of a gun without a magazine. And if you say do x y z to the mag all said person would have to do is modify it to make it whatever it could be. Good try but not an option.

There are millions upon millions of 30 round magazines out there on the street now, it would take 10 minutes to get one. Not to mention it takes about 1 minute for anyone to take the plug out of a legal one.

If the juvenile records are sealed how are they going to be used to block someone from purchasing?

So you’re saying criminals don’t follow laws? Who knew!
It always cracks me up when someone uses the "so criminals do not follow laws?" schtick as if it makes a point.
I think it is common knowledge that criminals do not follow all laws.....some, but not all.
I would go out on a limb and say that none of us follow all laws.......most, but not all.

It's beyond ridiculous to think those facts negate the necessity and benefits of laws.
