He is and has been a Football analyst for the NFL for a long time.

The NFL and College are different, but its still American Football. I think he can figure it out.

He knows a lot of people in Football. I think he could build a solid staff. To say the least.

I think his name alone would be a force in recruiting. A lot of people believe TN can recruit for itself. With Jon Gruden at the helm, I just thinks it would be crazy.

He would do a good job too I believe. However once you've won at the highest level why risk trying to compete with 120 other colleges for the top spot. He would more than likely fall short of his goal, just look at it from the odds perspective. He is also making great money currently with no pressure whatsoever and works probably what guessing here (20-25hrs a week)

Thanks but no thanks, we would have to pay him 8-12 million a year and even then I don't think he does it. He wouldn't sign up for the microscope life and the 70-80 hour work weeks of college football.

Did the OP say he was coming? Didn't think so.. He asked a question and I see you didn't answer it..

Personally, I'd say there's no chance they will, but they should call him/his agent.. You at least find out if there's any interest at all..

First off Gruden makes 6.5 mil a year right now doing what he’s doing. So the amount of money it would take to buy out our current coaches plus throw money at him to take on this Hornets nest of stress lol you gotta be kidding....

Plus he would have to put some sort of full staff together and figure out for the first time in his life to recruit in college and I might add against the most competitive Schools in football. And on and in.

Short story find a existing college coach who’s in the know, pay him 6 mil a year and let’s go crush the East again .

I heard he owns property in TN. His son plays at UT. His wife was a UT cheerleader. Supposedly his plane has been spotted over Knoxville. He said it's his dream job. Rumor is, as soon as his plane lands he's meeting with Currie. His dog pooped an orange turd the other day. He got cut the last week and doctors were baffled when his blood ran orange. Might as well hang it up guys, the search is over.
Seriously, I think they're crazy if they don't at least contact him. His recruiting would be epic and I think he would put together a good enough staff to win big here.

That's what I kept asking in 2009 when everyone thought Kiffin was the savior! Not one person could tell me why he was so great...I guess we see why now....

I think it's because he's so well known in the football world. His recruiting would be outstanding because of his NFL connections and the fact that he's one of the most well known football personalities out there. Most recruits at top programs are trying to get to the league and they would see him as an avenue, kinda like Saban and Harbaugh. So that takes care of the jimmies and joes. I realize he's been out of coaching for some time, but he's not completely out of the game. He's watching and analyzing games every single week and has lot's of contacts. He would put together a good staff. That and he's not a complete boob like Butch. We wouldn't have to worry about all of the horse crap flying out of his mouth.

John Gruden has the same chance of taking the UT head coaching job as Robert Neyland.

I see no problem in picking up the phone and see if Gruden is interested. If that happens and Gruden says no I really hope he tells Currie to make a public announcement. One that says, while I appreciate the offer and love the Vols, I have no intention to ever coach at Tennessee in any capacity whatsoever.

Maybe that would stop all of the Grumors.

He said he's itching to coach again, he's just not going to coach college. I could see him coaching in the NFL again. It may be an easy job, but some people aren't content with easy if it's not what they really wanna be doing. If that itch gets strong enough I wouldn't be surprised to see him coaching again.

GRUDEN IS NEVER GOING TO COACH HERE!!!!

He has the easiest job in the world making millions & millions doing ESPN Commentary. He doesn't have to lift a finger nor deal with the stress and responsibilities that come with coaching.

So what if he has UT ties? Doesn't mean a damn thing except that he likes Tennessee. Nothing more.

Gruden is a pipe dream.

To me, Grumors means we haven't given up hope as a fan base. Why not gruden? Is it probable, no. Is it realistic, no. I tell my kids to dream big....dream big Vols.

I don't think it will happen,,but I'd love to see him on our sidelines. He'd be a hell of a coach.

Again, easy doesn't always satisfy. There's a guy I work with that left twice to go to another job because the place I work is difficult and the jobs he went to were easy. He came back both times because he missed the challenge. If his heart and passion is coaching he's going to go back to it. I'm not saying he's going to coach college and I agree he's a pipe dream, but everyone saying he's working a cake job and that's why he won't coach again is crazy. Coaches have that competitiveness in their blood sometimes and aren't always satisfied analyzing and announcing.

Now guys, we all know there has to be a Gruden thread up 24 hours a day when we go through a coaching search . it isn't a true coaching search on VN unless there is a Gruden thread.

I agree he's probably a pipe dream, but all this "he has the easiest job in the world" talk is nonsense. Did it ever occur to some of you that most of these coaches enjoy what they do? Do you think that big time cosches got to where they were because they hated it and were miserable coming to work? No way! These guys love this crap and they sacrifice a lot of themselves and their families to do it. Gruden does tons of prep work to do his QB Camp sessions leading up to the draft. The guy just loves football and being around it. It should come as no surprise to anyone if he decided to jump back into it, albeit not necessarily at Tennessee. Not everyone is looking for the easy job where they don't have to lift a finger. Some guys enjoy being challenged and working hard to be the best.

It was all a timing issue last go around. He was this close to accepting the job per insiders, seent it with my own eyes.

Those guys were legit, I checked their stats!
