McElroy also went on to say he thought Dobbs performance at the senior bowl improved his stock from a 6th-7th round pick all the way to the 4th round. Also if you believe the buzz, the Cleveland coaching staff in particular Hue Jackson is in love with Josh Dobbs. In fact some think they might be targeting Josh with their 3rd round pick.

I haven't seen NFL Network's coverage of today's practice yet but from watching ESPN, everyone was gushing about Dobbs today. From Todd McShay calling him the biggest surprise of the week to Louis Riddick basically alluding to Tom Brady and Belichek when talking about the rapport developing between Dobbs and Hue Jackson to even Bill Polian, they were all raving about Josh.

Josh was the face of the south practice today with all the cameras on him at the end as well as getting the main post practice interview. Josh definitely stole the show today at the South practice if you watched ESPN's coverage. Louis Riddick went as far as to say he was the player he was most looking forward to watching play Saturday. Big week for Josh. He definitely upped his draft stock. Big time.

It makes me wonder if we underutilized his skills at Tennessee. I know he put up great numbers, but I think he was capable of so much more. I would like to know where the inconsistency with the game plans and the passing issues came from.

I wonder if they have QB coaches in the NFL? This could be new ground for Dobbs.

needed more time in the pocket or he would have REALLY lit it up this year.:thumbsup:

Mike Mayock, who is a pretty astute analyst, wasn't too enthusiastic about any of the quarterbacks in Mobile. He said:

"QB who will make fastest NFL transition
Nate Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh: It's not a good quarterback year. I didn't come away from this week loving any of the six who were here. While I have a lot more work to do on all of them, I think Peterman's the one who can step in and be a backup in the NFL right away. He picks things up quickly. Joshua Dobbs and Davis Webb have a lot of upside with their arm strength, but both have a long way to go."

Dobbs was one of the few players (Particularly QB's) out there that consistently got better each year, in almost every facet. He could do good in the NFL if he continues the pattern.

When Dobbs had time to set in the pocket he was a good passer. Most of Dobbs problem was the OL not being able to block anybody.

Here is another less than enthusiastic review, I'm afraid, from somebody at WalterFootball:

"Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs is another player who interviewed very well. He isn't much of a passer for the NFL, but perhaps he could develop into a backup. Dobbs had a nice rushing touchdown in the red zone scrimmage on a zone read run that he scored from about 15-20 yards out."

Ouch. Dobbs' big problem, IMO, is that he doesn't have a natural throwing motion. He kind of stiff-arms the throw. It was very pronounced and pretty ugly a couple of years ago. His motion has improved, smoothed out, a bit, but it's still noticeably stiff. His intelligence and leadership skills will help him, and perhaps so will the Cleveland connection, but I'll be surprised if he goes before the 5th round. Teams are always looking for QB help, so that will help as well. Every QB drafted this year is going to be a reach to some degree as it is a pretty weak group relative to other years. There is still the game to play, so that could help or hurt Dobbs too. He'll also have UT's pro day.

You notice how whenever we went down by double digits and had to scrap the original game plan and let Dobbs just be Dobbs that he became unstoppable.

I think the coaching staff severely underutilized and misused Josh's skills. The fact he didn't have a QB coach the last 2 years was embrassing. And the fact they brought Mike Debord out of retirement to be the offensive coordinator the last two years rather than hiring a young hotshot like Matt Canada who transformed Peterman into an NFL prospect was also a travesty.

All in all Butch Jones messed up big time in the development of Josh Dobbs.

This is the same guy that buried Cam Newton in 2011 while praising Blaine Gabbert. I wouldn't call him a savant when it comes to QBs. He missed on them alot. He probably said the same thing about Dak Prescott last year that he's saying about Josh this year.

Good for Dobbs..really hope he can land in a good situation with a staff that can develop him and help him fine tune some things..I'd almost hate it for him if he went to the Browns but hell it may give him the best shot at playing early

I actually agree with ya man,same could be said for Kamara as well.Few guys on the team I feel haven't had there potential maximised by this coaching staff.

Honestly, I could give a falling frogs fat azz what our guys do in the pros if it means they are gonna sit out a bowl game so they can be "healthy" for their pro day or whatever. It always surprised how many here get all concerned about it. Some think it's MORE important than their playing time at UT.

I hope Dobbs makes it and gets a shot though..as I do all our guys.

Yeah, no kidding. It blew my mind because I had spelled it like that my whole life.
I would have sent via pm but it's not exactly enabled from what I could gather.
