You'll probably hate it and flame it, but sharing info and opinions is what this board is all about:
Why is everyone worried about UF's performance in this victory? Compare this years game to last years game:
2008
30-6 WIN
UF: 243 yards offense, 4.5 avg
Rushing: 147 yards, 38 car, 3.8 avg
Passing: 8-15, 96 yards, 2 TD
3rd down conversions: 8-13
1st downs: 16
2009
23-13 WIN
UF: 323 yards offense, 5.1 avg
Rushing: 208 yards, 44 car, 2 TD, 4.7 avg
Passing: 14-19, 115 yards, 1 INT
3rd down conversions: 8-13
1st downs: 20
So offensively, UF did better in every statistical offensive category except the score and turnovers. UF moved the ball way better on the ground and also a bit better through the air. In 2008 and 2009, UF converted the same number of 3rd downs.
SO why is everyone freaking out about the offense? UF really played a good game except for two bad turnovers where Tebow tried to force things and Tennessee took advantage of those mistakes.
Defensively:
2008
30-6 WIN
Total yards: 258 yards, 4.4 avg
Rushing yards: 96 yards, 31 car, 1 TD, 3.1 avg
Passing yards: 18-28, 162 yards, 1 INT
3rd down conversion: 4-11
1st downs: 16
2009
23-13 WIN
Total yards: 210 yards, 4.1 avg
Rushing yards: 117 yards, 32 carries, 1 TD, 3.7 avg
Passing yards: 11-19, 93 yards, 2 INT
3rd down conversion: 5-12
1st downs: 13
So defensively, the only thing Florida did worse against was the run, where Tennessee ran a little bit better this year. But they had less yards, less first downs, more 3 and outs, and more interceptions. Heck, Crompton in the Clawfense had better numbers in 2008 than in 2009!!!!
I'm not making excuses. These are the facts of the game. The UF offense performed more effectively against UT this year than last year and the UF defense controlled the UT offense better than in 2008. The biggest difference between 2008 and 2009 was turnovers.
In 2008, UT had 2 turnovers at the UF goalline. This year, UT had two turnovers, but not in an imminent scoring position. UF instead had a turnover at the UT goalline and another DEEP in their own territory. UF scored 10 points off of those two Gator miscues.
That happens in football. UT came in here focused and took advantage of some Gator mistakes. But don't get confused, UF still controlled this game, just like they did last year. The only differences were turnovers, and a lack of a Brandon James PR TD.
So let the media, who built up the unrealistic 28 point blowout expectations say that UF is overrated. Because the facts are in the numbers and in the game. UF controlled the game from start to finish. Even with the gator mistakes, UT never came close to winning.
In short, the rumors of the gator demise are greatly exaggerated and UF's rivals will be shocked if they come in thinking UF is worse than last year...
Anyways, just food for thought.
