I love how people just see one bad year, two bad years, one particular stop in a coach's resume and immediately think a guy is garbage. It takes more than just pure coaching skill to create winning results.
Do you guys believe Bill Belichick learned how to be a 5-time Super Bowl champion between his last 5-11 season with the Browns and his 1st Super Bowl with the Patriots? No. The guy was a great coach who went 5-11 because of his situation and got let go. Even his defenses with the Jets the 3 years after he left the Browns weren't usually mind-blowing Top 3 rankings.
But suddenly in 2000, the Patriots hired the guy, the right pieces fell into place because of draft picks, administration, AND his skill as a coach.
You guys are always so QUICK to dismiss a guy because "oh, his Bears defense was abysmal"
Did you ever stop to think maybe his players, or the Bears front office, were the things that were pretty abysmal?
Stop acting like a guy has to be #1 in every category before he's worthy to be a coach at the University of Tennessee.
so you say not to just look at a couple bad years, right? how about dont just look at a couple good years then??? he was a d coordinator for 8 years in the NFL, out of those 8 you can claim his defenses had 2 good years out of those 8 and 6 really poor years out of those 8. stop acting like this guy is some defensive savant, he isnt. us bears fans were sold the same garbage that some of you are trying to sell right now. dont fall for it
