Going back for Mel Tucker??

You won't have to worry about either with this hire.

Probably not. He is the very definition of a Google hire. I'd never heard of the guy before his name started getting kicked around here. I looked at his resume and I don't see anything that tells me he would be a bad hire. I also don't see anything that tells me he would be a great hire.

Sonknow anything about Tucker to make this assessment?

He has a very good football resume. Experience across a few good college programs and in the NFL.

So do Jim Mora Jr, Bill Callahan and Greg Schiano. I'm definitely willing to be wrong about Tucker, but if that's who we end up with on Fulmers 4th day on the job, then it's hard to argue that no stone was left unturned.

Yea hopefully this is not true.....

Bet he was the one that will let Fulmer choose who he wants as assistants too. Fulmer should have taken the job if it's Tucker. Just wow

Better coach than Schiano. Better NFL record as HC too.

Okay Volnation before you get all up in arms let me ask you a question.... If want to buy something and there is a brand that you recognize and one you don't, even if the "brand name" is 5$ more usually it gets picked first...

It is much like Mel Tucker although the brand recognition is much less the end product is arguably more value able... So in the end Volnation... If/when Mel Tucker gets hired do your research before getting all "up in arms" about him...
He is a great defensive coach and a A+ hire in my book... And the proof is in his stats....

Georgia beat writer on TB saying Tennessee is the only school that has looked at Tucker in the last 2 years.

I would be OK with this hire as long as Tee comes as OC which I doubt he comes for anything less than HC. I like this hire still tho because I think he would get an OC with a power running game in mind like UGA has.

Great. Got Mecole Hardman and Deangelo Gibbs. Recruited under Saban, Tressel, and Smart.
Recruiting at Bama and OSU is shooting fish in a barrel. UGA is only slightly harder. IIRC, Dooley was the recruiting coordinator at Bama at one time. That says it all.

Tuesday update> Source tells FootballScoop Fulmer is set to meet with Mel Tucker today in NYC. We understand this will be Tucker’s second talk with the Tennessee search. Kevin Steele remains a candidate and Chad Morris has visited with Fulmer as well (after already having visited with Currie). All of the above is per sources and we continue to hear that while in New York Fulmer is keeping his options open with regards to other potential candidates. We also though continue to hear Fulmer would like to have his man decided by the end of the day. Will update as more is clear.

Like one of the worst defenses in Chicago Bears history type stats?

Georgia is loaded on D this year and will take a huge dropoff next year. Not enthused at all in this

the yankee thing doesnt bother me. the fact that he is a mediocre at best coach is what bothers me. sure, he has experience at all sorts of levels, including the NFL, but his nfl defenses were quite sub par. his stint this year at UGA is by far the most successful one he has been a part of

He had top ten defenses in the NFL. He had two bad years with one of the worst rosters with the Bears. He now has a top ten defense at UGA. He is a great coach.

I see he is going to get the Tee treatment. Lie about his resume to make it look like he is incompetent. Yall cant use inexperienced so I see his record is going to get twisted.

Good grief. My Bears fan friend hates this man with a passion. He's literally the worst defensive coordinator in their entire history. He set records for bad defense there in 2013 and managed to break them and be even worse in 2014. His defense in Chicago was the worst in the Super Bowl era. They gave up 50 3 times in an 11 game stretch. It took 759 games to give up 3 50 point games before Tucker took over there. I know someone said to ignore it, but you just can't ignore a large chunk of his career.

It’s been 91 years since an NFL defense has been as bad as the Chicago Bears | For The Win

"Following one of the worst defensive seasons in Bears' history in 2013, Tucker was criticized by the media.[9] As a result, the team fired two of Tucker's assistant coaches, linebackers coach Tim Tibesar and defensive line coach Mike Phair.[10] The Bears replaced them with Paul Pasqualoni as defensive line coach and Reggie Herring as linebackers coach.[11]

On January 20, 2015, following another record-setting low defensive season for the Bears, Tucker was replaced by former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio under new head coach John Fox.[12]" Wilipedia

no, youre the one making up his resume. i just looked it up and the best ranking any of his nfl defenses had was 11th. but go on acting like he is a good coach if you wish...he isnt HC material at UT imo

Where’s everyone at who said trust Phil cause he loves Tennessee and that coaches will be lined up to work for him cause he’s well respected? If this is who we hire Fulmer is no better than Currie was.

Better coach than Schiano. Better NFL record as HC too.

What?

What does Schiano have to do with Mel Tucker?

I missed Mel Tucker's head coaching jobs.... because you want to compare them as Head coaches please inform me of their comparative records as head coaches

Only head coach experience was 2/3
But on the plus side he would be cheap and hire and do as the AD tells him.
