Going back for Mel Tucker??

Where’s everyone at who said trust Phil cause he loves Tennessee and that coaches will be lined up to work for him cause he’s well respected? If this is who we hire Fulmer is no better than Currie was.

This is such a lazy POV. You don't recognize a name and you automatically assume that it couldn't be possible that he'll work out.

He had top ten defenses in the NFL. He had two bad years with one of the worst rosters with the Bears. He now has a top ten defense at UGA. He is a great coach.

I see he is going to get the Tee treatment. Lie about his resume to make it look like he is incompetent. Yall cant use inexperienced so I see his record is going to get twisted.
how are we lying about Mel Tucker's resume?

He literally was the man responsible for THE worst defense in the 97-year history of the Chicago Bears.

Ignoring that fact is like saying well besides that...how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?

no, youre the one making up his resume. i just looked it up and the best ranking any of his nfl defenses had was 11th. but go on acting like he is a good coach if you wish...he isnt HC material at UT imo

6th in 2011 but whatever.

He has the number four defense this year.

Has a better resume than Kirby Smart did when UGA hired him. Better resume than Pruitt.

He is a good coach.

At least Currie had Mike Leach on the board. This hire would be the most underwhelming in Vols history and a slap in the face to Tee Martin, John Chavis and many other former Vols who we might as well hire if we consider Tucker.

I'm not going to pretend that he's the first name on anybody's last, but he's well regarded and they love him at UGA.

We aren’t hiring Tucker or any other coordinator to be a coordinator. It’s largely illogical to criticize based on where a coordinator’s offense or defense ranked in some random year.

You’re projecting how they will do as a head coach, a CEO type role in building a program. That’s vastly different than how well they called plays.

now consider that we are the only team that has even interviewed Mel Tucker in the last 2-years. What a choice selection by Phil if he goes through with this.

I would honestly rather have Chad Morris

Multiple people with UGA ties said that the difference between Kirby last year and Kirby this year is that he settled down and let his coordinators call the game, so we as fans can't have it both ways.

If TN hires Tucker, he needs the Vol Nation to support him.

He also needs more players, a coach is only as good as the talent he puts on the field. No different than Chavis looking much better with 4 and 5 star talent than he does with lesser quality - although A&M sucked in 2016 with Daeshon Hall and Myles Garrett at two DEs....

6th in yards allowed....11th in points allowed. way to only tell a part of the story though! and so because he has a better "resume" than smart, he is automatically a better head coach?? geeeeezz. stop and think outside your little box. some guys just arent HC material, he is one of them. youve never watched the guy coach is what it seems like to me, i have seen him on the sidelines coaching guys, and he always looks lost. that doesnt mean he is actually lost, but it sure doesnt give me much confidence that he isnt

He is well respected and a good recruiter, and has a hell of a resume. My UGA friends are big fans. But he is a quiet guy, and not sure if that will be a good fit with our "fish bowl" environment.

Well go ahead and give us your list.

Ok well for starters at least we know that Morris offense is his. And that Venables D is his. We don't even know who's actually in charge of Georgias D, Miles is a better hire than Tucker and so is Leach. That makes 4. I could make the argument that both Brohm and Norvell are better than Tucker, but then it starts to get a little more subjective. I would prefer Morris over any of them because I know hell score. For those who would balk at his record at SMU, I disagree but not enough to really argue about it. I can't imagine any metric where someone would think Tucker is a better option than Venables.

If it's Tucker, then Fulmer made no effort other than to find a coach that he could control. If it doesn't end well it should be the last thing he ever has to do with this Athletic Department.

And if it is bad it does work out I’ve sure you’ll be back here praising him like the rest of us will . Damn give the man a chance to do his job and let’s see what happens when we have an AD that none can say doesn’t love this University

He is not Les Miles or Tee Martin

All that should be known at this point... and passed on.

I love how people just see one bad year, two bad years, one particular stop in a coach's resume and immediately think a guy is garbage. It takes more than just pure coaching skill to create winning results.

Do you guys believe Bill Belichick learned how to be a 5-time Super Bowl champion between his last 5-11 season with the Browns and his 1st Super Bowl with the Patriots? No. The guy was a great coach who went 5-11 because of his situation and got let go. Even his defenses with the Jets the 3 years after he left the Browns weren't usually mind-blowing Top 3 rankings.

But suddenly in 2000, the Patriots hired the guy, the right pieces fell into place because of draft picks, administration, AND his skill as a coach.

You guys are always so QUICK to dismiss a guy because "oh, his Bears defense was abysmal"

Did you ever stop to think maybe his players, or the Bears front office, were the things that were pretty abysmal?

Stop acting like a guy has to be #1 in every category before he's worthy to be a coach at the University of Tennessee.
