Doubt any of these guys are taking the job from anyone
Not so sure. There's a hotshot freshman, Hill the transfer and both Maurer/Shrout will continue to grow and get better. JG appears stagnant or even regressing. I see any of the 4 having a shot at taking his job assuming he makes it through the season in one piece. Even if he does, I have no doubt that he's going to transfer at the end of the year. I'd be shocked if he remains in Knoxville.
CAVPUT, I'm telling you, these coaches are going to have to gooooo....something is bad wrong somewhere.....i don't think any of these coaches know how to coach a QB.....they can't coach the starter up and I'm surprised they knew the backups name.....this was pitiful...they been hiding them because they don't want anyone to know how poor coaches they really are....I like Shrouts anticipation. Hope that his issues were just being amped up to be playing. He's got some tools and a great arm. There's some potential there.
Maurer is something of a wildcard. He's got something about him. He's not afraid. He competes. He's the kind of guy that a team will rally around and follow. Might not have the best arm, but we don't know that right now and certainly didn't get clarification today.
If I had to bet on one to take the job from JG, I'd put my money on Maurer right now.
Agree about what Pruitt said. Why would he keep the best on the bench? That would be dumb. I was surprised to think some thought the backups were better at this stage than JG. Hopefully when they are here as long as JG has been they will be high quality QB. Right now they are backups. That should tell us all something. I wish them success...and soon. How did he prove "haters" wrong?
I think the only thing proven today was that he's the best option we got, that's not necessarily a good thing.
*Edit* Pruitt is the one who proved everyone wrong, he's been saying the best is playing

Hey, don't scream NEXT MAN UP AGAIN.....its like the backups were still in high school and coming to summer camps or something.......I'm very unhappy with this coaching staff after the way they handled Brian today....If JG gets hurt the game won't be on Brian but on the coaches poor coaching and not having a QB near ready to step in....poor poor poor
What a shame...I don't blame them if they did....pitiful coaching....I just really don't like what happened on the field today at all......I'm starting to lose interest in these coaches....I don't think they have interest in a Back up........I won't be surprised if Shrout and Maurer leave at the end of the season. They won't see any more meaningful snaps with the first team offense the rest of the season, barring an injury to JG, and JG will stick around next year since Pruitt is 'ride or die' for him.
Now you see their coaching abilities....I just don't like what I see...not at all....what in the world is wrong.....these coaches give me no confidence in next year or things getting better....I think it's more a case of what they have to work with. I just can't believe that a staff with Chaney, Martin and Weinke are incapable of coaching the qb position.
