Florida led the SEC in sacks and our OL didn't block them at all that game. He played less than 15 plays vs A&M.
Forgot about the Florida game. He did lead one scoring drive there didn’t he ? JT had two touchdowns in mop-up time if I remember correctly.

Texas ATM was the only true SEC Defense he faced this year. He had one good series and the rest were mediocre. I have hope that a better Qb coach can help with his development but there saying Weinke’s contract doesn’t run out to Feb. 2022.

Nah, an SEC defense is an SEC defense to a true freshman who got no spring ball to acclimate. I’m with you about Weinke, but the jump from high school ball to the SEC is steep, even against Vandy. It’s just a different speed.

HB did play against Florida 1st team, I forgot about that one. Vandy was a glorified high school team late in the season. That game and his mop-up duty in other games gives him more game experience but cannot be counted as a true test of a legit SEC defense IMO.

This is sorta like the “could the best team in college football beat the worst nfl team?” thing. No, they couldn’t. A bad Vandy defense is still exponentially better than anything he saw in high school; the windows close faster, the coverages are more complex, it’s just a different game.

Wasting your breath.

Scuttlebutt is they don't like each other.
If I recall correctly one or both of the guys cleared that up though late in their recruitment and said it was not true that they wouldn't play together as to which we were all relieved because at that point we stood a real possibility of getting both.

What is a “true SEC” defense these days anyway?
It has been said that Florida had one and they just gave up 55 points. However, their defense did not give up all 55. Their offense gave up a pick 6 and had other turn overs. Loses are suffered by the team, the whole team. offense, defense, and special teams as well as the quality of coaches and players. One can hire and fire coaches at will and we have been doing that for 12 or so years. The quality of our coaches have varied but is 3-4 years long enough to determine the true quality of the coaching? The quality of football players is a shot in the dark which is usually based on the opinions of several coaches and non coaches who try to convince coaches that player A is better than player B. These players are kids, immature physically and mentally. No one really knows how players or coaches are going to perform until the combination of coaching and playing have the opportunity to develop and improve. I think it takes more time for a new head coach to mature than it takes for a freshman player to mature. We also know that those who are able to determine which high school players will become the best college players, and have the good fortune of being able to recruit those players seem to win more games. However, good coaches with good players still lose football games. Two example of this have happened in the last couple of bowl games. Clemson and Florida are good teams which looked very bad in their bowl games. Both have coaches and players that most everyone on who post on this board would have highly desire to have at Tennessee. These coaches are well established and have outstanding records, yet their teams sucked in their last bowl games.

The point is, we have not had the same quality of coaching or player that these to teams have and they still got blown away. Let's give our young coaches and players a little more time and support and then see if and when we need to change coaches/players. What we have done over the last 12 year has not worked.

i dont make 3.846 MILLION dollars per year.

that's $320 (****ing thousand) dollars per MONTH. Bill Lee makes $120K a year.

The decisions we saw on and off the field this year warrant absolute criticism. We can say 'this year was a throwaway'. Tell that to kids with the hardware.

There are 4 millionaires on this coaching staff. Their assurd compensation is well deserved, if we sign a top 5 class. And go to Raymond James. But we lost to Kentucky, at home. We got blown out several times.

I tried to be positive. Then they cheated. If you cheat, win. If you dont win, dont get blown out. If you get blown out, at least play the best players.

I respect what you’re saying but the actual act on calling for someone to lose their job which they take care of their families with is the issue regardless of how much they make. They took their best shot to put themselves in the position to earn what it is that they earn. He was a damn good and successful DC and that’s why the gamble was made to hire him as head coach! As we say where I am from: Don’t hate the player hate the game!!!

We took a gamble, as it was the situation we found ourselves in. We are a product of our littany of bad choices. We were told no, repetedly by a lot of average coaches.

I dont fault Jeremy for taking a job that may be too big for him. If anything ive tried to defend the indefensible. But, as the highest paid public figure in TN, its hard not to criticize. Never want someone to lose their jobs. In fact continuity would be better now for us than ever. But, we cannot afford to fall behind another year.

Therefore its time to **** or get off the pot. Guess that was a P & A way of saying, we need to go another direction

Maybe there is a reason you don’t make $3.846 million a year. Most of us don’t either. Don’t be so jealous of people who chose a profession which pays high salaries and are hired by institutions who are willing to pay those salaries. At Tennessee Nd most other Universities, no tax dollars are used to pay coaches salaries. If you want to complain about those paid by taxes, try complaining about useless career politicians, University Presidents like the one recently fired by Liberty, the CEO of TVA etc.
