Wrong.
LSU was far from loaded. Yes,they were improving but they were nowhere near where they are today. I think 01 was only Saban's 2nd season so he hadn't had time to stock the roster.
UGA wasn't close either.
Our talent was MILES above Georgia and LSU that season.
Auburn, you are correct on, but I didn't mention them and we didn't play them again until 2003 so that's a moot point.
Wasn't Alabama on probation at this time also?
Considering our talent and the state of the SEC at that time, we rightfully should have had a title or bust mentality.

LSU was a lot more talented in 2001 than they are today. Dinardo actually closed out with two top-5 recruiting classes before his poor coaching got him canned and Saban added two top five classes in 2000 and 2001. A little recap of the NFL or All-conference talent on that 2001 roster:
OL: Williams-Winey-Peterman-Baggett
RB: Williams-Toefield
WR: Reed-Clayton-Henderson
TE: Royal-Edwards
QB: Davey-Mauck
DL: Green-Allen-Lavalis-Hill-Spears
LB: James-Faulk-Alexander
DB: Clark-LeBlanc-Mayes-Booker-LeJeune-Daniels-Webster-Gay-James
Many of those guys are still in the league almost a decade later. It was actually one of the most talented rosters of the decade for any program anywhere.
