Fulmer statement on Warlick

Usually a vote of confidence ends with a pink slip.....
First thing I thought. Our team is young, but why? One wonders, do other coaches lose so many players, not from injury, Tea, Annie, Alexa, and Diamond, maybe others I’m not thinking of. Found it hard to believe Holly had Diamond on the bench so much. I do not know, but Holly seems to me to be very unconfident, and players need confidence in themselves and their coaches, to win. No player wants to hear their coach say, I don’t know. She is supposed to have the answers. Is she coaching in a negative way, such as, don’t take a bad shot, causing the players to be hesitant and afraid, instead of, whatever shot you attempt, finish it? Also, she appears not to want to coach effort. To me, that’s something that’s part of coaching. Anybody think Pat didn’t coach effort?

Stupid, self indulgent narcissistic or not, it is a reality that, no matter how much you might want to roll with Holly, she is not the answer. She had a great start, however, the last three years, the program has been headed South. To think otherwise is being brainless and being immersed in the epitome of delusional irresponsibly.

Don’t misunderstand. I’m for firing Holley but the criticisms of Fulmer are insulting. The man has given his entire life to UT, while some fans that have given nothing throw out the ugliest comments. It’s what I described whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

Get a grip folks. What did you expect him to say? "Yep, I'm firing that no good blankety-blank right after the season ends."

It is clear that Fulmer has no interest and/or viable option for a late season coaching change so of course, he is going to say supportive things at this point in the season. The real assessment and decision will come at the end of the season.

Really, it is not that complicated. Public statements like these are always calculated ones and not the direct expression of actual plans that are going on behind the scenes.

I agree completely. I see nothing in his quote saying he has confidence in the coaching staff or that they will be back next season. He only states his support for the players and the program. Calling it "Coach Warlick's" team is only stating the obvious fact that she is the current head coach. The same players could be here next season with a different coaching staff.

I agree with this and will hold any coach to this standard. Including myself

"Our Lady Vols basketball team is a much younger squad. They’ve battled back recently from some adversity early in the SEC play, but progress is evident — a recent road win at Missouri was a great example of impressive execution on both ends of the floor in crunch time. They’ve won five of their last seven games, and I expect Coach Warlick’s team to continue to grow and gain confidence as we march toward the postseason."

Sounds like a vote of confidence to me.

Every time an AD makes a mid-season statement like that.....the Coach be Fired! Woooooooooo WHooooooooo!!!!!!!

Where was this quote taken from?

If he's silent, the noise grows. If he fires her right now, he puts himself and the team in a horrible position.

He did the right thing: let the people making noise know that he is aware, and give his coach a vote of support at this point in the season. That's the right course of action publicly. As for privately, he should be asking her if there is anything she needs him to do, and otherwise he should just observe and make notes.

Nothing happens till after the tourney. She should fall on her sword. Take a front office job. Something. Better than getting fired. Woman hasn't a clue, she admits it, then Fulmer finds someone who does. He probably already has. Pray this doesn't turn into the football team!

He has to support her until it is time to let her go.

Did anyone expect him to say she su(ks and watch attendance further erode?

We are young? Georgia , who beat us, is younger than us......

the point made about coaching effort was a good one.... of course you can coach effort.... starting by sitting down players who are in a funk or disinterested or not giving it their all..... like perhaps Davis last night....

As long as we are making the tournament yearly, he doesn't care. Not enough revenue involved to make it worth stirring the pot. Our legendary program is now dead. It has been replaced with a "good" one. Seems unfortunate as it really would have taken very little administrative effort to keep the program from backsliding.

I thought it was a perfect, careful response. We're heading into tourney season and like it or not, firing Warlick now would be terrible for the program and fans. Yeah, many of us would like to see a new coach take over, but not now! Let the team perform and do what they're going to do in the post season, then hopefully, try and make moves to start repairing the program in the off-season. Fulmer was correct to put out this statement and I don't see where this is an endorsement of Holly for years to come.

Holly’s own words last night explains it all. She said, We did not compete and I don’t have an answer.
She says that every game, at least she is honest. If he does not fire her at the end of the season, then he is not very supportive of the University and he needs to be fired. I saw the writing on the wall when he was hired.

The key to Fulmer's statement is at the end when he talks about the postseason. He's put the pressure squarely on Holly....showing he has expectations for postseason success. We all know this team isn't doing jack in the SEC tourney and certainly not in the NCAA's. He's come out and publicly stated he expects postseason success. That's the most optimistic take I can see with that statement. If Holly bows out early in the SEC and/or NCAA's (if she makes it) and Phil comes out with a statement of excuses...THEN we have big problems.

Exactly. I don't know how fans don't understand that. Unless a coach commits a felony, the administration will continue to show support until they fire them.

How about you just dont say anything at all? But your point is valid.
