Freak just put up

I believe you can enjoy win and still have reasons for concerns. I would certainly hope our players and coaches would not accept a one-point win over Chattanooga for example and then say everything's fine let's enjoy this and not fix the things that would result in losses down the road. It's never good just to rest on your laurels or be satisfied. Always strive for perfection

Sounds similar to what the head coach mentioned after the game Saturday.

That's what gets me. Tonight to me he tried to make JG the hero. I saw Pruitt on the sideline and if I read his lips properly he said "take him out" on that second series.
He can barely said anything good at all about JT or Maurer. I can hardly see any encouragement from Pruitt about JT or Maurer at all. Pruitt needs to come out of the darkness and into the light.
If he keeps treating his coaches on the sidelines and players when they come off the field as badly as he does sometimes it will grow old pretty soon. We'll know more when the season ends. Pruitt actions looks like he would be a hard man to work for. Season end will be telling.
You read his lips right, Pruitt did say that.

We are 3-1 the last 4 games with JG taking most of the snaps. Sounds like just the opposite of you saying all you want is to win.

Go back and rewatch these games. We did not have an improvement in ol play and defense till jg was replaced. Maurers first start is when the team started clicking and improving. And playing with much more energy. The ol has lost that fire with jg playing more. Everyone knows maurer was cleared to play and didnt so we seen a regression in ol play, defense will be next if jg continues to play. The team was ok with jg when maurer was unable to play. But ol had a huge regression in sat night game. Jg just sucks the energy out of team

What a crock. I just don't understand how some posters have to dig to find something negative to post. Here we have a team which we were favored to win by 14 points. We have one QB who is still not physically ready to play and one who has a broken hand and one who has played a half of football at the college level. The defense is playing their best game of the season. We will win the game playing players who have not seen the fiel before last night's game. We need to see how well JG handles the situation with playing with a cast on his left hand. just in case he ha to play in the next game against a team who has been ranked higher than us the entire year.

We learned a couple of thing from playing JG as much as he did. They may have to design a different cast for his hand. He still is throwing the ball into double/triple coverage which we could survive against UAB. JT still needs more coaching to play SEC games when needed. Maurer may not be ready to play for another two weeks. I would rather JG throw an interception against UAB than Kentucky. Tennessee beat the spread so no one lost money unless they bet against Tennessee and if they did, they should have lost money. Why not enjoy the victory for the Home Coming game where a Tennessee player tied the alltime record for interceptions in a game, a Tennessee player kicked the longest field goal in his career at Tennessee, football players on th, Tennessee football team played in their first game. almost every player on the squad played in the game, and the defense played its best game since Pruitt has been our head coach. That was a defensive unit which was extremely young and inexperidenced and has made unbelievable progress since the opening game this year. Time for fans the reevaluate their attitude and appreciate where this team, including the coaches, have come since opening day and give some credit to them instead of looking for only the negative stuff to criticize a fine effort by our football team.

According to Pruitt maurer has been cleared to play and was for sat nights game.

If I am Shrout, and I had his arm talent, I'd give Mike Leach a call I don't think JT fits CJP's quarterback profile and in the right system, he could be a really good quarterback.

the UAB game and I got to watch the first series that ESPNU did not show.
Pulling JT after that series was ATROCIOUS.
That was so unfair to that kid it speaks volumes.
The kid played well enough last week and deserves way more respect than that imo.
Again this is HOGWASH and his excuse for pulling him was a bunch of HOGWASH

JT may just not know the plays

The defense gave us the ball multiple times in the first half and we easily could of and should of had 2 more TD's than field goals. We should of been up 31-0 at half and won 45-7. That's on the QB. I just watched the first half again and those scoring drives had very little passes completed. It was mostly runs and short passes. I can remember one nice pass to MC, but a lot more poor passes. The one to JJ on he wheel route was a terrible throw. He got bailed out with a couple of PI's in those drives too. I just don't get why you don't give JT or BM some snaps in a game like yesterday. They need the playing time.

Also I expect JG to get the start this week because it will be on the road and not enough fans to hear the boos.

It appears jg will be the qb the rest of this year and next year

It appears Pruitt wants a game manager as qb. Dont think he wants qb who can score a lot of points.

JG hasn’t started a game since bama. Maybe that’s his punishment for his dumb move at bama. With that being said, the announcers said during the game that CJP told them that JG was by far the best QB. I will defer to him. It’s his job on the line and he knows far more about football then we do.

I totally agree with u, very unfair to shrout and to maurer as well. Jg is the one player most responsible for our losses this yr in our first two losses of the yr.

JT not JG. I was saying that they may have put JT in for a series and he just didn’t know what he was doing or running.

He pulled him because of a throw no QB should ever make no matter how strong their arm is. It wasn’t a mistake it was doing something that every QB coach tells you not to do. He was running the opposite direction of what he threw.

That being said I think you give him a pass on the first series give him a 2nd series and see if he fixed what you got on to him for. He should have played more.
I would say that makes sense, but then JG throws a pick off his back foot in the red zone to a completely smothered wide receiver. And he still gets most of the playing time when making decisions like that

Here’s the thing. You don’t see him in practice and the QB room....Pruitt and Chaney do, everyday, so they have him on a short leash because based on what they see from him everyday and how he performs, they don’t get trust him. It’s that simple. So when he makes a throw and decision that they’ve very likely tried time and again to coach out of him, they pulled him. You didn’t like it, I didn’t like it, looks like a lot of fans didn’t like it. But I understand it.

I don’t think he can get much better, not enough to matter.
He is pretty much the same as last year.
Average mostly, sometimes a little below, sometimes a little above, good every once in a while,
Flat out terrible a couple games a year, and that’s why I don’t want him back , because he will cost the team them couple of games.

So you discount a QB having a different offensive coordinator every single year he is at a school as having zero impact on his perfermance? Especially in regard to how fast he sees the field and reacts to what he sees?
Do you also discount that Jim Chaney has the abiltiy to positively impact a QB with two years of a working relationship?

IMO too many in volnation are terrified he will turn in a good season making them and all the others in the JG haterclub look silly.

Do i think JG is great? Nope. Not even close. However one thing i KNOW is that learning new offensive systems and philosophies every year hurts team perfromance and especially the QBs.

So i hope to see him back because having a senior QB who knows the system inside out is almost always better than the alternative.

Plus, as much as ive seen this team struggle with JG at QB i do think the coaches know who gives us the best chance to win. This coming from a guy who is about as far from a Pruitt apologist as one can be.

According to Pruitt maurer has been cleared to play and was for sat nights game.
Being cleared to play and being ready to play are two different things. I was cleared to play golf after shoulder surgery, but I was not ready to play for another 3-4 weeks. Almost all Freshmen QBs are cleared to play, when they arrive on campus but many are not ready to play. Maurer may or may not be able to play Saturday.

I was talking about a poster not the coach
Your post spoke directly to what the players and coaches should or shouldn't do after a game.

I believe you can enjoy win and still have reasons for concerns. I was just pointing out that Pruitt ironically made a similar comment after Saturday nites game. Which is pretty typical for him if you catch many press conferences or post game interviews.
What a random poster says or thinks is substantially less relevant. Just when I try and give you a little credit.

He also pulled JG after the INT. It's not like he hasn't been consistent.

I think the coaches are being tough on Shrout because his history with errant passes. It's tough love to try to get his INT problem under control, because they know if he can fix that, he's an NFL-caliber QB. And that was an absolutely terrible decision by Shrout; this is his biggest problem is that he tries to force plays that aren't there.

Pruitt / Chaney made the right decision. We didn't need a high-scoring gunslinger to win this game; not with the way the defense was playing. Not turning the ball over was priority #1.

As much as people want to complain about JG struggling with the mental side of the game, Shrout has struggled with that even more. Yes, he's been able to deliver beautiful deep passes when he's had no pressure on him and had open guys. It's when he's had pressure or no open receivers that he's made more questionable decisions, but I'm hoping the tough love by the coaches pays off.

Yikes, it's almost like you watched the game! Good post.

Shrout, like most young players, was probably a lot more physically gifted than most of the kids he faced in high school (although I don't think he was viewed as a high level QB recruit). He's used to using his arm to make a difference and that is good. He needs to learn, though, that the guys he's facing now are way better than the high school kids he could dominate before. Bad high school habits need to be broken for his talent to be maximized at this level. To me, that's what it looks like this coaching staff is trying to do.

I'd bet Saturday night wasn't the first time JT heard from his present coaches that he should never run right and throw left. He probably got away with it in high school. He's got to stop it now.

Threw the pass across his body. JG throws an interception in the end zone but makes an excuse for him
But he pulled JG to start the second half and started JT the second half. But, personally I don't care. Maybe the staff thinks JG plays better coming off the bench. As long as we win I don't care how they do it.

I have seen a new OC/QB light it up in year 1, in college and NFL. More than once.
I have seen QB’s have a different OC 2-3 years in a row and struggled every year.
It could very well effect the performance.
It might also be the common denominator is the reason for continued struggle, common denominator being an average QB.
So I don’t discount or assume anything.
I think the common denominator here is JG is very average and another year won’t make him much better.
I think we will have a couple of better QB’s with a much higher ceiling and I hope they get the chance to prove it
