What pissses me off about this ad is it's a built in excuse. If UT gets beat by Arkansas then Hamilton can say, "Look at all the Fulmer supporters. We can't get rid of him. My hands are tied."
Both Fulmer and Hamilton come out looking good (or bad depending on your point of view)
The timing is everything.
Thoughts of a Noob:
1 .This article is an indication of a legitimate effort to replace Fulmer and this must have been known in advance by MH and CPF. While they didnt sanction it they probably were aware of it and could have killed it. Its of interest to me that they didnt and places special importance to winning the AR game. If we lose to ARKY it could now be very ugly and especially if another loss to KY or V'bilt follows.
2. The timing of this letter is interesting. The only outstanding game the Vols played was GA and it was at a critical time, when there was a high fear-factor with serious discussion for letting Fulmer go. (CPFs reaction following the GA win validated this to me.) Most felt it was a motivating factor in the teams performance in that win. Is this letter intended to have the same motivational effect going into the ARKY game (another critical game)? Problem is---it looks to backfire and create a real firestorm should TN lose.
2. I agree that this letter is an act of desperation and not good for the program.

Here is the pdf file. Glad to see that most of my favorites were not on the list! One of you engineers or math people get some percentages from us. How many people on the list actually played under CPF while he was a head coach? Looks like those that did are in the minority.

Look at it this way, or at least i do. We are not gonna get anyone any better to come in here next year. When we do get someone they are not gonna be near as good of a recruiter as CPF. If you look at the full body of work he ain't that damn bad! We have struggled at times but alot of that is on the players. He can't make them tackle someone.
No, CPF can't make the players tackle someone but he sure can teach them how or better yet bench the ones who can't tackle and put in those who can.
:good!:
Douglas was one of nearly 200 former players who signed an open letter this week to Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton expressing their support for Fulmer. It was the brainchild of David Moon, who played under Fulmer on the offensive line in the 1980s and is now the president of an investment management firm in Knoxville. Among the players who signed the letter, which appeared in Friday's editions as an advertisement of the Knoxville News-Sentinel, were Peyton Manning, Bill Bates, Jason Witten, Dale Jones, Albert Haynesworth and Todd Kelly.
if you really stop and ponder this ad/letter it's kind of embarrassing.
