I'll say this. If you pick any team out there and you let them shoot 3s freely at the clip that our team did, like BAD shooters included and shooting in volume, then you'll get the "one of the worst shooting rosters in history" result. And it won't be because your roster is weak necessarily. It's because you aren't maximizing its strengths. People shooting higher percentage in rhythm shots in general will fix a lot of that.
We saw this exact team compete at times and then shoot themselves in the foot with ridiculous decisions. Coaching and development can correct that, with repetition and time. Also, we were often gassed or had no belief/confidence or chemistry - all which affect performance. So, I dunno. I think we did have a roster. The usage rates of certain players were off. Who was shooting what and when, off. But, this is part of the system. We didn't have a bad roster, we did have a bad roster for this type of system perhaps.
Here's my honest gut check question: If you gave that exact same roster that we had last year to Kara Lawson would you get the same result? What about Dawn Staley? Somebody prepare me to throw up - Geno? What do y'all think? I don't think so. Would love to hear other opinions.
